About The Position

The Senior Data Engineer plays a critical role in designing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization's data, infrastructure, and cloud environments. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of both on‑premises and cloud‑based systems while supporting the organization's broader data and technology strategy. The Senior Data Engineer leads complex infrastructure initiatives, oversees system administration across Windows, Linux, and AWS environments, and ensures the integrity and availability of mission‑critical data and services. In this role, the Senior Data Engineer partners closely with IT leadership, cross‑functional teams, and external vendors to deliver secure, scalable, and high‑performing solutions. The position also provides technical leadership to help desk staff, contributes to cloud migration efforts, and upholds compliance with industry standards such as SOC 2 and HITRUST. This is a hands‑on, senior‑level role ideal for a resourceful, analytical professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is committed to operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, or a related field; equivalent experience or training may be considered.
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience supporting the duties outlined in this role.
  • Strong knowledge of networking, virtualization technologies, and server administration.
  • Hands on experience with AWS cloud services; AWS certifications preferred.
  • Ability to administer physical and virtual servers, networks, and security systems.
  • Proficiency in network architecture, analysis, and design.
  • Experience with performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and update technical documentation and process materials.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to keep IT leadership informed of data center and cloud operational issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • SOC 2 or HITRUST experience preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CCNP, MCSA, MCSE, or AWS Cloud Practitioner are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support networks, servers, storage, security systems, and related hardware/software in alignment with organizational standards and data‑protection best practices.
  • Administer and maintain both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Perform system administration tasks across on‑premises infrastructure and AWS cloud environments, including supporting cloud migration initiatives.
  • Ensure regular application of OS patches, upgrades, and updates to administrative tools and utilities; deploy new services as needed.
  • Manage system and network security within AWS, including identity, access, and resource protection.
  • Oversee corporate network security and connectivity, ensuring reliable and secure operations.
  • Administer cloud‑based Active Directory and vendor‑managed single sign‑on solutions.
  • Manage firewalls, antivirus platforms, web‑filtering systems, SSL certificates, and PGP encryption.
  • Conduct daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of hardware, networks, servers, storage, and critical processes.
  • Review system and application logs and confirm successful completion of scheduled tasks, including backups.
  • Perform and quality‑check daily backup operations to ensure all required file systems and data are properly captured and recoverable.
  • Coordinate with third‑party vendors and service providers to support service delivery, resolve issues, and manage changes.
  • Oversee vendor‑managed systems such as the Mitel phone platform.
  • Manage Office 365 services, including Exchange administration.
  • Evaluate and prioritize projects, establish goals and objectives, and ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
