About The Position

As a Senior Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will leverage your expertise in standard processes for preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning equipment. This role is crucial in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Azure, Office 365, and more. You will also provide guidance to other technicians and contribute to improving service quality and efficiency within the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years' experience in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications such as ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Vendor-Specific Network Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures, reviewing process changes to evaluate their impact.
  • Ensure compliance with Global Data Center Operations and service-level policies, completing assigned tickets efficiently.
  • Delegate hardware installation and other work to technicians, preparing and performing hardware startups and shutdowns.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to identify issues and guide technicians in replacing faulty components.
  • Contribute to issue tracking and client relations, helping collect service metrics and maintaining awareness of key performance indicators.
  • Facilitate compliance with safety procedures while following all safety, security, and data management protocols.
  • Reinforce a positive team environment by sharing information and responding to feedback.
