The Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer, Hydraulics shall support hyperscale data center construction programs as a mechanical engineer with a focus on hydraulic modeling. This includes the hydraulic modeling of piping systems, reviewing hydraulic models produced by consultants and providing feedback, and general design work.

  • Review and assist technical development of mechanical systems (both airside & waterside) for hyperscale data centers including campus planning, general layout/arrangements, CFD & noise modeling, climate data evaluations, hydraulic analyses, pipe sizing, bin hour analyses, etc.
  • Oversee A/E design consultants and provide direction or escalation in accordance with established engineering standards.
  • Peer review A/E design consultants' deliverables including drawing sets, specifications, sequence of operations, calculations, models, etc. and provide comments & resolutions in accordance with established engineering standards.
  • Review and advise on potential value engineering opportunities.
  • Analyze for redundancies, failure modes and SPOFs while working with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modelers to verify conformance.
  • Develop rapid conceptual sketches using CAD or BIM for visualization and spatial/dimensional validations for internal purposes only.
  • Review and understand the client's piping design guidelines and hydraulic constraints.
  • Review piping system designs and be capable of providing rule of thumb feedback prior to modeling.
  • Gather and validate necessary data for model input, including topography, pipe networks, pump curves, valve and heat exchanger curves, and operational parameters.
  • Input piping system design into a hydraulic modeling tool (Pipeflo and/or AFT Fathom) accurately pulling dimensions from PDFs, CAD, or Revit.
  • Identify key failure scenarios that require analysis and add the scenarios to the model.
  • Assist in densifying hydronic loads when necessary by employing creativity and ingenuity.
  • Calibrate models to ensure they accurately represent real-world conditions after construction and commissioning has been completed.
  • Run simulations to evaluate system performance, predict potential scenarios, and identify bottlenecks or vulnerabilities.
  • Assess a system's capacity under various demands, flow conditions, and water quality parameters.
  • Analyze water pressure, flow rates, velocities, and potential for water hammer.
  • Propose and evaluate design solutions for system expansion, rehabilitation, or new construction.
  • Model proposed scenarios to identify and optimize pipe sizing, pump selection, and storage facility requirements.
  • Evaluate failure scenarios of dual flowpath systems to analyze resilience and identify single points of failure.
  • Prepare and communicate clear and concise technical reports, documentation, and presentations summarizing modeling results and design recommendations.
  • Effectively collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure modeling goals align with project requirements.
  • Present modeling findings to external parties and stakeholders, as needed.
  • Flag issues or deviations and work with A/E consultants on remediation or improvements.
  • Assist in developing scopes of work to procure hydraulic modeling services from A/E consultants.
  • Create general sketches, docs, spreadsheets and/or presentations where needed.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline is required.
  • 5 years of solid related experience.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (Pipeflo and AFT Fathom) is required.
  • Proficiency in engineering drafting tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and Revit) is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with cross-disciplinary teams, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, electrical, and architectural.
  • Solid understanding of large-scale, data center infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and its related products (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
  • Pipe Stress Analysis and/or CFD experience (Bentley AutoPipe, Star-CCM+, ANSYS/Fluent, MicroFlo, and/or 6Sigma) is helpful.
