About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the quality of health care in Florida. We are seeking to hire a Senior Data Base Analyst who desires to work to enhance the delivery of health care services through the Florida Medicaid Program. This position requires a candidate who is creative, flexible, innovative, and who will thrive in a fast-paced, team based work environment. This position is located in the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics. As the Agency hub for analytics, reporting, and visualization, the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics examines critical aspects of Floridians’ health, health care services and costs, and is vital to managed care rate setting, health care economics, and health plan evaluation. This position is responsible for preparing all types of data reporting and analysis for the Medicaid program.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Access, SQL, Python, or other Database programs.
  • Strong programming skills related to data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Excel.
  • Possess strong quantitative research and analytical skills.
  • Possess strong communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to utilize information technology to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to handle detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to develop data reports that communicate effectively to internal and external clients.

  • Two years of professional experience preparing data reports or presentations.
  • Five years of professional experience utilizing Access, SQL, Python, or other Database programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree or a more advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant discipline such as mathematics, computer science, or statistics.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience or a background in health care.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain queries and processes for analyzing large Medicaid data sets to support reporting and analysis throughout the Division of Medicaid. This includes tasks related to program operations, legislative requests, media inquiries, public records requests, etc.
  • Operationalize Medicaid policy and program concepts to generate quantitative measures of Florida Medicaid recipients, services, costs, and providers. Develop, test, and execute computer programs using SQL and Florida Health Care Connections (FX) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to obtain data and prepare statistical analyses for responding to requests from Federal CMS, agency management, and other bureaus.
  • Interpret statistical results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to independent complex data mining, and report data in formats suited to different audiences.
  • Contribute to peer reviews and cross-training as directed.
  • Work with other bureaus and sections to ensure the availability of data elements to support the Division of Medicaid's data analytic needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
