About The Position

The Senior Data Analyst will support a major Department of National Defence (DND) defence acquisition client in advancing their Digital Engineering, Modeling and Simulation (DEM&S) ecosystem. This role focuses on developing and implementing robust data models, establishing digital threads, defining data format and exchange standards, and supporting the agile, phased implementation of an integrated data environment. The position involves working closely with systems engineering teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to ensure effective data integration across complex platforms and compliance with current industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Science or Engineering, with demonstrated expertise in integrated data environments and complex systems architecture. A diploma in Information Technology or Information Management (IT/IM) combined with substantial professional experience in building and architecting DEM&S and integrated data environment (IDE) ecosystems may also be considered.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience designing and implementing data models and data exchange frameworks in large-scale, complex technical environments.
  • Proven experience building and implementing data exchange solutions in accordance with current industry standards (such as ISO, OMG standards, or defence-specific data standards).
  • Advanced proficiency with data modeling tools and methodologies (e.g., entity-relationship modeling, semantic modeling, UML, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of data exchange protocols and technologies (XML, APIs, JSON, data serialization formats).
  • Experience with agile and iterative system development approaches in regulated or complex program environments.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which requires Canadian citizenship and continuous residence in Canada for at least the past 10 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in defence acquisition, systems engineering, or complex capital programme environments would be a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and validate comprehensive data models supporting the DEM&S ecosystem, including specifications for data structures, relationships and governance frameworks for complex systems.
  • Lead the definition and implementation of digital threads to enable seamless data flow across engineering, modeling, simulation and decision-support environments aligned with current data exchange standards.
  • Establish and maintain data format and exchange standards (including XML, API protocols and data serialization standards) to ensure interoperability and consistency across integrated platforms and vendor-supplied information.
  • Support agile development methodologies in a phased implementation approach, working iteratively with stakeholders to refine data architectures, conduct pilots, and transition to operational environments.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, modeling and simulation specialists, and DND technical teams to identify critical data requirements, assess integration challenges, and recommend solutions for complex data exchange scenarios.
  • Provide technical guidance on data modeling tools, data quality assurance, metadata management, and documentation to support long-term sustainability of the DEM&S environment.
  • Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
