The opportunity The Data Analyst supports the program by analyzing, preparing, and visualizing crime data to support operational oversight, strategic planning, and public-facing data releases. This role focuses on transforming complex datasets into clear, accurate, and actionable insights using Power BI and related analytical tools.

Requirements

  • Must have an active Top Secret clearance and able to maintain
  • Must have at least Bachelor's degree
  • Must have at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Must be comfortable working on-site 5-days a week in Clarksburg, WV
  • Analyzing data sets to identify trends, insights and anomalies
  • Help our clients make data-driven decisions by working with structured and unstructured data sets, building out predictive models and advising our clients on data mining leading practices
  • Building and applying data analysis algorithms (data mining, statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, text mining, etc.) as appropriate
  • Refresh and update Power BI dashboards
  • Clearly communicating findings, recommendations, and opportunities to improve data systems and solutions
  • Demonstrating deep understanding of and ability to teach data science, concepts, tools, features, functions, and benefits of different approaches to apply them
  • Seeking out information to learn about emerging methodologies and technologies
  • Looking for opportunities for improving methods and outcomes
  • Applying data driven approach in trying technology solutions to specific business outcomes
  • Collaborating, influencing, and building consensus through constructive relationships and effective listening

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above in mathematics, information systems, statistics, computer science, or related disciplines
  • Communication is essential, must be able to listen and understand the question and develop and deliver clear insights
  • Experience communicating issues, status and thought leadership to partners and clients
  • Developing people through effective leadership, coaching, mentoring and performance assessment of all levels of staff
  • Candidates should be willing to travel 20 – 30% or more.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze datasets including NIBRS, SRS, Use of Force (UoF), and federal crime statistics to identify trends, anomalies, and insights.
  • Prepare, clean, transform, and model data from local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement contributors for analytical use.
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports supporting internal analysis, executive briefings, and public data releases.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Power BI, advising program staff and leadership on visualization standards and analytic best practices.
  • Refresh and update Power BI dashboards to reflect new submissions, revised business rules, and evolving reporting requirements.
  • Conduct statistical, comparative, and historical analyses including SRS-to-NIBRS transition analysis and estimation analysis when data thresholds are not met.
  • Analyze data transferred from internal systems to public platforms such as the Crime Data Explorer and recommend improvements to clarity and usability.
  • Present analytical findings and recommendations through clear visualizations and narrative summaries.
  • Support strategic planning activities by providing data-driven insights for milestones, objectives, and future-state planning.
  • Collaborate with Data Quality Analysts, system engineers, and policy staff to ensure analytical outputs align with approved business rules and data standards.
