About The Position

This position would require a candidate to possess a strong technical background in developing and delivering BI solutions. Business intelligence (BI) is a set of technologies and practices for transforming business information into actionable reports and visualizations. A Sr Data Analyst is in charge of developing, deploying and maintaining BI interfaces. The Sr Data Analyst is concerned about business value and is engaged in the user interface, usability, testing, security, and deployment of data. A Senior Data Analyst I will possess a strong skillset of a Data Analyst to collect, clean, analyze and visualize data. With these analyst skillsets, the Sr Data Analyst is responsible for understanding the data sources and warehouse layers in the underlying infrastructure of BI system. Reporting is a separate duty that does not concern engineering as much, but rather working with databases and data models. Data models are defined and applied to the databases by the BI Data Engineers. The Sr Data Analyst is the one who provides the reporting requirements for the model which determines what data must be extracted and/or collected. The Sr Data Analyst will work with the HBS BI Data Engineers to build and construct the Platform Architecture for data collection and connection. The Sr Data Analyst I must have the ability to transform data into meaningful information that drives business decisions. The primary responsibility is to produce visual depictions of data that reveals patterns, trends, or correlations between different points. Duties will include using software to create dashboards to showcase information, perform data analysis and data modeling, and reporting on various data types. The Sr Data Analyst is also responsible for helping grow the skills by either training them on new skills or by becoming a mentor.

Requirements

5+ years in technology related role
Experience with needs analysis, software evaluation and selection, customization, and implementation
Extensive experience with the Microsoft BI Suite, including Excel, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), or Microsoft Power BI
Programming and processing experience in the following: DAX, T-SQL, Power Query, or M)
Strong understanding of report writing and visualization
Knowledge of SQL utilizing MS SQL Server
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or I.T. related discipline
Microsoft certified – Data Analyst Associate

Nice To Haves

Expertise in Professional Services or similar client facing roles
Experience in multiple industries (Education, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing) verticals
General understanding of multiple Analytics platforms with the ability to articulate the differences and benefits of each platform i.e., Power BI, Qlik and Tableau
Programming and Processing Experience (ETL)
Azure Experience (Azure Data Factory or Azure Synapse)

Responsibilities

Work with HBS Sales Solutions Consultants to identify and expand opportunities within HBS client environments.
Meet with customers to understand their current business processes and needs to provide consulting services and direction on how to build or grow their current data strategy.
Set business requirements for BI tools and translate business requirements into technical requirements.
Understand that based on the project scope, it will define the degree of involvement at what level to engage; data source layers, warehouse layer, analytics and/or reporting layer.
Develop and design the process for the customer data collection and modeling.
Review customer sources to ensure integrity of the data collection process.
Design and develop front end visuals based on BI needs and usability of reporting to answer business questions and tell the data story.
Lead BI software development, deployment and maintenance.
Estimate development effort required to deliver data customer needs and requests.
Use business analysis skillset to identify development needs for the purpose of streamlining and improving the operations of the organization for efficiency and profitability.
Work with customers to understand their data and answer business questions using data analytics.
Work in partnership with customers to validate the data through User Acceptance Testing.
Work in an agile framework that allows your efforts to produce results quicker and get the reports in the hands of the users for validation while continued development occurs.
Ability to work independently or as a team on project-based solutions for clients.
Work with team mates to continue to grow and mature data services and delivery options for HBS clients.
Based on experience, one may mentor other engineers in developing scalable, secure, high-performance BI and Data solutions.
Based on experience, conduct end user training for how to leverage specific BI tools to customers.
Engage in brand building events and groups like the Power BI User Group.
Meet annual billable hour goal, as defined by HBS. This number may change over time as the business evolves.
