We are seeking a Senior Dam Engineer to support our dam safety practice in the United States. This is a new position to support FEMA, state dam safety agencies, and dam owners to enhance dam safety. This position is to work from one of our Laurel, Maryland HUB offices and virtually support the nationwide dam safety practice. AtkinsRéalis provides dam engineering as a core service internationally with high accomplished centers of expertise in the United Kingdom and Canada. In the United States AtkinsRéalis focuses on program support for the National Dam safety Program with FEMA, states, and municipal governments. AtkinsRéalis is expanding our US presence to add a full dam practice and to leverage our international expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering degree.
  • M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
  • 15 years of experience since bachelor's or 14 years since Master's in planning, design of dams and dam safety.
  • 20+ years of experience preferred.
  • PE License.
  • Experience working with state dam safety programs.
  • Experience with dam inspections for regulatory compliance under the National Dam Safety Program.
  • Specialty in Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) modeling of dams for state regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with GIS platforms using H&H modeling and mapping.
  • Preparation of Emergency Action Plans.
  • Expertise with HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS 2D modeling for dams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME for the FEMA Dam Preparedness Collaborate Technical Assistance (CTA) Program.
  • Support piloting the CTA realistic scenario-based tabletop exercise training.
  • Evaluate a depth-velocity loss rate function for dams for consideration by FEMA as an addition to HAZUS.
  • Develop guidance documents and best practices for dam safety.
  • Provide SME support for the Future of Flood Risk Data (FFRD).
