Basic Function: To perform janitorial and/or building guard duties in a Ramsey County facility, to include cleaning and maintaining public buildings and surrounding areas, controlling building entrance and exit, inspecting building areas, and making safety/security checks; and to perform related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Finger printing: The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the FBI require the Property Management Department to submit fingerprint cards of new employees and to keep them on file for every employee that has access to areas where their databases or information are accessed, produced, used, or stored.
  • Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA): Certification by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) for authorized access to areas where the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) is accessed or CJIS information is stored is required after hire and the ability to maintain this certification every year.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain offices, workstations, restrooms, and other building areas to include cleaning and maintenance of floors, carpets, walls, windows, furnishings and other building fixtures by using a variety of techniques, methods, and equipment such as burnishers, buffers, shampooers, extractors, vacuums; ensure areas are fully stocked with essential supplies.
  • Maintain areas in and around County buildings to include mowing, weeding, fertilizing and watering lawns and flowers, pruning trees and bushes, collecting and disposing of trash, removing snow and ice from sidewalks, sweeping ramps and plazas, and applying pesticides.
  • Receive, store and deliver supplies; set up, move or store tables, chairs, and other furniture, possibly several times within one shift; and maintain tools, equipment and supplies used on the job.
  • Inspect building areas and grounds to check safety and security measures such as locked doors and windows, fire hazards, trespass, unauthorized exit or theft, and slipping/tripping hazards. Operate electronic doors and elevators and record the distribution of security keys to staff.
  • Answer phone calls and provide information to the public or refer calls to staff; and provide work direction to season employees.
