About The Position

The position is responsible for: documentation and closing multifamily financing transactions made pursuant to Chapter 134 of the Connecticut General Statutes and under other programs administered by CHFA participates including, but not limited to, federal low-income housing tax credits, single family loans closed inhouse, group home and supportive housing loan closings, state and federal emergency mortgage assistance loans, and real estate owned sale transactions; preparation of legal documents, closing of loans and resolution of general legal matters involving existing developments under CHFA's multifamily housing portfolio and under the state sponsored multifamily housing portfolio; preparation of contracts, requests for proposals and request for qualifications; assisting with legislative matters; reviewing documents in response to freedom of information requests; and the provision of general legal support and assistance to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, senior management, and to staff of all CHFA departments as may be required to attend to the daily business, operation and mission of CHFA.

Requirements

  • Requires a Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the Bar of the State of Connecticut.
  • Requires 10 years' experience in the practice of real estate and/or finance law with working knowledge of commercial real estate finance and/or housing finance programs and structures.
  • Requires experience in a law firm or in a corporate or other organizational legal department.
  • Requires extensive experience in preparation and review of loan documents and other legal documentation, including contract preparation.
  • Requires scheduling and balancing priorities under time constraints.
  • Requires strong working knowledge of commercial real estate finance and/or federal and State housing finance programs and structures.
  • Requires daily decision making in response to legal inquiries from CHFA staff and external parties.
  • Requires a high degree of written and verbal communication skills and familiarity with current office technology.
  • Must have a strong understanding of real estate, finance & general governmental administration legal authority and general legal practice.
