About The Position

Responsible for providing legal advice and recommendations for action to executives and management within a variety of business units regarding matters of various complexities (basic to intermediate) which have or may have a sizable dollar impact on business activities and operations. In addition: Provide guidance to the Company and regional management teams, on the full gamut of employment and human resources matters, including policies and procedures, wage and hour compliance, leave of absence and accommodations, risk assessment related to terminations and compliance investigations, and OSHA investigations. Occasionally respond to EEOC or state agency charges, investigate and respond to attorney demand letters (i.e., restrictive covenant matters or discrimination/harassment/retaliation). Provide innovative EH&S solutions working alongside legal and business teams on a range of cutting-edge issues. This role will report through the Employment, Health and Safety Legal team.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • At least 5 years of post-bar attorney legal work experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings.
  • Required licensure to practice law in at least one state.
  • Required Illinois bar membership or active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Advising internal business partners on EH&S regulatory matters.
  • Developing strategies that prioritize EH&S regulatory compliance and mitigate business risk.
  • Investigating and responding to requests for information, compliance orders, and enforcement actions.
  • Coordinating internal and external investigations, compliance reviews and monitoring activities.
  • Providing strategic guidance on managing relationships with various regulatory bodies at all levels including developing communication plans, inspection strategies and best practices.
  • Reviewing and preparing legal documents prior to presentation to management for execution to ensure accurate expression of the legal content.
  • Collaborating with the business units that it serves in order to achieve corporate objectives and mitigate unnecessary business risk.
  • Researching legal principles and precedents, engaging and managing outside counsel, drafting legal documents, gathering relevant case related information using multiple sources and methods.
  • Providing work guidance to other professional, paraprofessional and support staff in developing solutions to problems presented.
  • Maintaining currency and fluency in the legal and business trends that could impact those business units within Walgreens that it serves.
