About The Position

As a Senior Counsel, Commercial at Together, your mission will be to support and enable the business to rapidly scale by providing legal counsel on commercial transactions. You will have the opportunity to be at the cutting edge of one of the most important technological shifts of our time, interfacing with a variety of companies seeking to build successful AI-driven products and businesses. Your primary focus will be to negotiate, draft, and manage commercial agreements with customers, suppliers and other key partners. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial law, with the ability to balance both legal expertise and commercial savvy, be able to work cross-functionally with a dynamic team to solve complex legal issues and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You will be one of the first legal hires at the company with an opportunity to build and shape the legal function of a rapidly growing AI startup.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience (preferably with some in-house counsel experience at a technology company)
  • Deep experience negotiating and drafting technology infrastructure hardware/software customer contracts, as well as a variety of other commercial agreements including supplier contracts, financing agreements and partnership agreements
  • Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to provide practical advice and creatively address complex legal matters with sensible solutions
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and work under tight timelines with close attention to detail
  • Highly responsive and driven with a “doer” attitude, strong work ethic, accountability, and professionalism
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-lawyers, and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Experience creating and refining systems, processes and workflows to streamline contract management, optimize efficiency, and ensure consistency across the business as it scales
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school; admitted to the bar and in good standing in California, or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the negotiation, drafting, and review of key customer contracts, working closely with our sales team to close revenue deals
  • Lead the negotiation, drafting and review of supplier contracts, debt financing agreements and other types of commercial contracts
  • Provide expert legal advice to internal stakeholders, including sales, business development, and product teams, on customer contracts, legal risks, and commercial transactions. Ensure the contracts allow the business to both appropriately manage legal risk while facilitating business growth
  • Develop and refine contract templates to streamline contract negotiations and ensure consistency in contract terms across the business
  • Develop and implement processes for contract lifecycle management. Ensure that all agreements are properly tracked, that the business has an understanding of commercial terms across contracts, and that risk is appropriately managed across the business
  • Build expertise to deeply understand the company’s product offerings, product portfolio and associated nuances
  • Be ready to roll up your sleeves and wear multiple hats to help the company grow
