The Senior Controls Engineer supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control systems (including electrical, mechanical, and chemical control devices) for Gopher Resource's manufacturing operations. They will be involved with forecasting project work. They will be involved in the programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical devices such as PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs. The Senior Controls Engineer will also be involved in the creation and modification of electrical drawings and control circuits.

  • Assist with the specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of new instrumentation and control equipment
  • Lead and implement control systems upgrade and improvement projects
  • Apply engineering, procurement, and construction concepts to create and manage simplified critical path logic networks
  • Evaluate project status against baseline schedules and assesses the impact of changes or delays in design or construction
  • Effectively communicate project plans, timing, and status to project teams and other key stakeholders
  • Regularly meet with site stakeholders to understand new project requests, document scope, and forecast controls resourcing
  • With the Controls Manager, maintain long range forecast model used in weekly resource steering meetings
  • Perform detailed review of control system design and configuration documentation
  • Maintain all panel and electrical drawings to ensure they are current
  • Ability to provide immediate support for the site
  • Respond to emergency and service calls that occur outside normal working hours
  • Collaborate with Controls team to transfer technical knowledge and experience
  • Ability to collaborate with different sites teams as a controls SME
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from accredited College or University
  • 7+ years of previous work experience in overseeing enterprise-wide control system designs, capital projects, and implementation of new process designs in continuous, discrete, and batch manufacturing environments
  • Previous experience directly managing Aveva Wonderware (software maintenance & patching, SQL scripting)
  • Extensive development experience with HMI programming software such as FactoryTalk View ME
  • Previous development experience with process automation systems using Rockwell Logix/Studio family of software
  • Previous experience with PLC networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus RTU and TCP/IP)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Ethernet networks, and servers
  • Previous experience using AutoCAD software for electrical designs
  • Previous experience with testing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging software systems
  • Functioning knowledge of electrical and electronic systems
  • Ability to design new control panels as needed - direct/assist electricians with new and existing installations and upgrades
  • Understands schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, one-line diagrams, and front-end engineering and design documents (P&IDs, PFDs)
  • Capacity to work independently and in a team environment while fostering a positive work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communications, and conflict resolution
  • Excellent problem-solving skills - innovation, collaboration, analysis, inductive reasoning
