About The Position

PPG's Aerospace Business is looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL! As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert supporting advanced manufacturing automation and controls across a large-scale aerospace production facility. You will be responsible for the design, development, optimization, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and robotic systems to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe plant operations. This will be an onsite position in Huntsville, AL reporting to the Engineering Manager - Strategic Planning & Capital Investments.

Requirements

  • Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refugees are eligible to apply.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field required.
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering within manufacturing (aerospace preferred).
  • Strong proficiency with: Allen-Bradley/Rockwell (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PanelView), GE, and Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7)
  • Demonstrated experience with FANUC robot programming and integration.
  • In-depth knowledge of PLC logic, HMI design, industrial networks, motion control, and SCADA systems.
  • Solid understanding of NFPA/NEC codes, machine safety standards, and industrial communication protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CNC controls, thermal processing systems (furnaces, ovens), and autoclave control systems preferred.
  • Experience leading installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of new equipment beneficial.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and manufacturing analytics a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC programs, HMI screens, and SCADA systems for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Create, modify, and validate control logic using Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), GE, and Siemens platforms.
  • Program, integrate, and troubleshoot FANUC robotic systems, including motion control and safety functions.
  • Ensure automation systems meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for automated equipment, including: Glass cutting systems, CNC machinery, Furnaces and ovens, Autoclaves, and other automated manufacturing assets
  • Support plant operations by responding to critical equipment issues and providing technical guidance to maintenance teams.
  • Optimize existing equipment to improve throughput, reliability, quality, and energy efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry guidelines, and company engineering specifications.
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics, software documentation, and version control processes.
