About The Position

We are looking for a highly experienced and technically proficient Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced control systems for automated equipment and industrial processes. In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert, mentor junior engineers, and drive complex automation projects from concept through commissioning. You will play a key role in developing innovative solutions that meet client needs and enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in controls engineering and industrial automation.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of motion control, robotics, servo systems, and VFDs.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet).
  • Proven experience with control system architecture, functional design specifications, and electrical design review.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites for system installation and commissioning (as needed).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SCADA systems, MES integration, and IIoT technologies.
  • Familiarity with robotic integration (e.g., FANUC, ABB, UR).
  • Understanding of safety systems and functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, SIL ratings).
  • Project management or team leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C#, or structured text (IEC 61131-3).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, programming, and integration of industrial control systems using PLCs, HMIs, motion controllers, and safety systems.
  • Architect and implement automation solutions across multiple platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, Mitsubishi).
  • Oversee electrical/control panel design, component selection, and schematic development in coordination with other electrical designers.
  • Develop robust control logic and HMI interfaces for custom machinery, robotics, and integrated production lines.
  • Lead the commissioning and startup of control systems on-site, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance with specifications.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior controls engineers and technicians.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and project engineering teams to define system architecture and resolve cross-disciplinary challenges.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure all designs meet applicable safety and regulatory standards (e.g., UL, CE, NFPA 79).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and documentation standards.
  • Interface with customers to understand technical requirements, provide guidance, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
