About The Position

Senior Controls Development Software Engineer – Low Voltage Infrastructure Job Description: Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to be onsite approximately 3 days (Tues., Wed., Thurs.) per week. The Role: Embedded Platform System & Infrastructure (EPSI) is a production level group that supports the definition, design, and development of all embedded controllers related to vehicle mechatronics. The Low Voltage Infrastructure (LVI) organization within EPSI is focused on the development of controls & diagnostic software centered around on-vehicle low voltage power generation, energy storage, power management, and distribution. This role is paramount to the successful review, development, simplification, integration and release of VIP and SDV2.0 architectures controller software. There is no better time to join this domain as we evolve to the next generation of low voltage power strategy, innovation, and capability for EVs, ICE and every product GM has to offer. We are seeking creative, highly motivated, agile thinkers with passion and expertise in embedded controls. The selected candidate will learn, modify existing and develop new innovative controls strategies, which will be at the core of all vehicles within the General Motors portfolio and essential to keeping General Motors at the forefront of low voltage related technologies.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree.
  • 5+ years Engineering experience related to embedded controls (PLC, Power Systems, ADAS, Infotainment), calibration, integration, or software development
  • Skilled with software development (C, C++, Python)
  • Understanding of embedded controls development and delivery processes, including SAFE/Agile.
  • Experience using embedded controls test assets (SIL, HIL, Vehicle, etc) and tools (INCA, MDA, etc).
  • Expert capability to capture and analyze data to verify system and feature performance
  • Development, simplification, integration and release of VIP and Software Defined Vehicle (SDV)
  • Proficiency with control system theory and application to embedded systems including state space feedback control, adaptive control, and model predictive control (or equivalent).
  • Strong partnership and teamwork skills, with demonstrated ability to learn from and share knowledge cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
  • Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Engineering with focus on controls or Software Engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive low voltage systems and hardware components
  • Strong understanding of low voltage controls features, software, and calibration
  • DFSS Black Belt
  • Record of invention: patents, awards, or publications
  • Experience with safety critical design

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and implementation of controls development for complex low voltage related features in embedded C and C++.
  • Research and develop novel solutions to controls challenges.
  • Contribute to ART Feature and user story elaboration into individual work items.
  • Contribute to ensuring that definition of done and acceptance criteria are well defined
  • Provide information as required to calibration procedures
  • Ensure compliance to safety and governmental regulations while following GM-internal best practices
  • Work cross-functionally with System Engineers, other Software Engineers, Architects, Calibrators, Scrum Managers and Scrum Leaders to ensure robust design
  • Collaborate with other team members to define and integrate components, check functionality on the bench and in the vehicle
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within deliverables to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologies
  • Lead and support other specialists in root cause analysis and resolution of issues related to the low voltage electric power domain
  • Verify functional performance of controls designs through testing (Unit, HIL, SIL, Vehicle), data analysis, and verification of acceptance criteria
  • Document Intellectual Property
  • Participate in the relevant team and program events: Program Increment Planning, DSU (Daily Stand Up), iteration reviews, ART inspection and adapt sessions etc.
  • Build the capability of the team through mentorship, creation of training material, development of tools, etc.
  • Identify opportunities and drive improvement initiatives through to completion for process, workflow, and strategic changes
