The Senior Controls Design Software Engineer - Low Voltage Infrastructure position is part of the Embedded Platform System & Infrastructure (EPSI) group, which is responsible for the design and development of embedded controllers related to vehicle mechatronics. The Low Voltage Infrastructure (LVI) organization focuses on developing controls and diagnostic software for on-vehicle low voltage power generation, energy storage, power management, and distribution. This role is crucial for the review, development, simplification, integration, and release of LVI Body Control Module software. The selected candidate will work on innovative control strategies that are essential for all vehicles in the General Motors portfolio, contributing to the evolution of low voltage power strategy and technology for electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

  • Lead development and implementation of controls designs for complex low voltage related features in Embedded C.
  • Research and develop novel solutions to controls challenges.
  • Contribute to ART Feature and User Story elaboration into individual work items.
  • Ensure compliance to safety and government regulations while following GM-internal best practices.
  • Work cross-functionally with System Engineers, Software Engineers, Architects, Calibrators, Scrum Manager/Scrum Leader to ensure robust design.
  • Collaborate with team members to define and integrate components, check functionality on the bench and in the vehicle.
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within deliverables to enable component reuse and consistency to standard methodologies.
  • Lead and support other specialists in root cause analysis and resolution of issues related to the low voltage electric power domain.
  • Verify functional performance of controls designs through testing (Unit, HIL, SIL, Vehicle), data analysis, and verification of acceptance criteria.
  • Document Intellectual Property.
  • Participate in relevant Team and Program Events: Program Increment Planning, Daily Stand Up, Iteration Reviews, ART Inspection and Adapt sessions.
  • Build the capability of the team through mentorship, creation of training material, development of tools.
  • Identify opportunities and drive improvement initiatives for process, workflow, and strategic changes.
  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree.
  • 5+ years Engineering experience related to embedded controls, calibration, integration, or software development.
  • Skilled with software development (C, C++, Python).
  • Understanding of embedded controls development and delivery processes, including SAFE/Agile.
  • Experience using embedded controls test assets (SIL, HIL, Vehicle) and tools (INCA, MDA).
  • Expert capability to capture and analyze data to verify system and feature performance.
  • Proficiency with control system theory and application to embedded systems including state space feedback control, adaptive control, and model predictive control.
  • Automotive, Aerospace, Heavy Equipment experience.
  • Vehicle level controls experience.
  • Strong partnership and teamwork skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric.
  • MS in Engineering with focus on controls.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive low voltage systems and hardware components.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage controls features, software, and calibration.
  • DFSS Black Belt.
  • Record of invention: patents, awards, or publications.
  • Experience with safety critical design.
