About The Position

Eaton's ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Senior Controls Automation Engineer. This position is based out of our Waukesha, WI location. The Senior Controls/Test Engineer is responsible for supporting plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining robust testing and assembly processes. The Senior Controls/Test Engineer is responsible for portions of design, development, fabrication, validation, installation, support and troubleshooting of production test equipment and programs. The Senior Controls/Test Engineer is a coach, mentor, and role model for others to personally grow for working with them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer/Math/Science from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of test/controls engineering experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in many computer programming software such as visual basic/studio, SQL, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Five (5) years of experience with PLC, HMI programming and safety systems design.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven (7) years Controls/Test engineering experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certified with expertise in structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 8D, A3s, FMEA, control/Pareto charts).
  • Experienced in electrical testing procedures, protocols, and troubleshooting at both component and integrated system levels.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying NFPA 70E and other electrical safety regulations; skilled in reading and troubleshooting schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong background supporting Engineered-to-Order (ETO) manufacturing and resolving electrical design and production issues.
  • Project management experience using the PROLaunch framework.
  • Capable of guiding installation work and resolving complex issues involving multiple electrical contractors.
  • Software proficiency includes NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Rockwell RSLogix (5/500/5000), Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, and VB6.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and enforces guidelines for test equipment design, specifications, protocols, and data collection, ensuring safety compliance with OSHA and electrical standards.
  • Supports, services, and troubleshoots test equipment and electrical systems, identifying hazards and driving remediation to maintain a zero-incident culture.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, MESH, suppliers, and customers to ensure operational alignment and product conformity.
  • Leads root cause analysis and applies critical thinking to drive improvements in cost, quality, and performance; mentors others in problem-solving.
  • Oversees capital equipment selection and CAR development for major testing and control initiatives.
  • Participates in assessments, acting as category lead or champion when required.
  • Drives cost-out and continuous improvement initiatives through Lean/Six Sigma tools, Kaizens, and metric-based performance tracking.
  • Enhances testing/control systems through technology innovation and waste elimination in factory floor information flow.
  • Leads cross-functional projects with defined goals and budgets, aligning stakeholders and managing effective communication plans.
  • Implements change management strategies (e.g., ADKAR, MOC) to sustain process improvements across manufacturing operations.
