About The Position

WSP is seeking an energetic and responsive Senior Control System Engineer to join our multidisciplinary Process Infrastructure and Design team on a full time basis in Phoenix, Arizona. The following locations will also be considered: Salt Lake City, UT; Lakewood, CO or Houston, TX. The team you will join will offer interesting diversity of global clients and projects in Environmental Infrastructure facilities such as industrial facilities, water and wastewater industries, landfills and contaminated soil sites, as well as, Oil & Gas, surface and underground mining infrastructure including dewatering, material handling, fuel and lube, maintenance shops, and pumping stations. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, with excellent proactive communication skills, possessing a skill set for electrical & Controls infrastructure design, Owner Engineer and project delivery. The Senior Electrical Controls Engineer is a technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing electrical control systems, MCC, PLC, Drives often within a specific heavy industry like infrastructure, manufacturing, mining and metals. Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree Engineering with an emphasis in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of ten years of of experience in MV/LV MCC and VFD and PLCs
  • Experience with SCADA systems.
  • Experience with digital communications and fieldbus technologies.
  • Strong understanding of PLC (Rockwell Control Logix) hardware and software or DCS (Siemens PCS 7, Delta-V)
  • Experience with mining, oil and gas, water treatment, and other EPCM projects with a minimum of ten years of successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of industry standards and best practices including NEC, IEEE, and others.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • Strong planning, organization, and execution skills
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to project sites. Approximately 10% overnight travel.
  • Must pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with good leadership abilities and communicate effectively with both direct reports and the service leader.
  • You will support the team’s workload, resource planning.
  • Work independently and collaborate in cross-discipline team to meet project goals.
  • Develop and perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and technical specifications.
  • Engineer-of-Record for projects and/or project components of varying degrees of complexity.
  • Lead or Design for LV MCC and VFD including but not limited to electrical calculations, equipment data sheets, electrical specifications, control panel, motor schematics, single line diagrams, interconnection diagram and layout drawings
  • Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, PLC/DCS Layouts, and IO wiring
  • PLC/DCS and HMI Programming, testing, and debugging experience
  • SCADA and Control system network design
  • Prepare drawing, engineering and bid packages for the contractor and the client.
  • Provides guidance, training and mentorship for junior and intermediate engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Conducts quality assurance and implements quality control on projects across the service line
  • Lead and supervise multiple technical projects.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholder including cross-discipline, construction, vendors and owners to address electrical and controls design concepts, issues or concerns.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
