About The Position

The Senior Control Room Dispatcher is responsible for assisting Control Room Operations staff during their shifts, particularly in emergent and complex situations. This role serves as a resource for departmental policies and procedures, assists in training new personnel, and monitors various security and emergency systems within the hospital. The dispatcher operates independently, making critical decisions during emergencies and ensuring the safety and security of the hospital environment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of dispatcher experience is required, with six months in BCH control room operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to Control Room Operations staff on their respective shift.
  • Serves as a resource on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists in training new personnel.
  • Performs monthly tests and verification of hospital emergency cellular phones.
  • Verifies and tests emergency telephone numbers to neighboring institutions, ambulance companies, and outside vendors.
  • Reports any system malfunctions and technical and operational issues to department management.
  • Performs weekly Elevator communication checks.
  • Monitors and operates all hospital audio and visual security equipment, including closed-circuit surveillance cameras and intercoms.
  • Provides access control for parents, patients, visitors, and employees to neighboring institutions.
  • Monitors all fire alarm systems for the hospital complex & BCH Satellite Properties.
  • Responsible for activations of internal Code Red drill procedures and dispatching.
  • Contacts Fire Department through the use of direct emergency phone and informs them of current alarm status and location.
  • Dispatches security and hospital engineering personnel and notifies appropriate hospital personnel of activity associated with the fire alarm systems.
  • Inputs information through the fire alarm keyboard to initiate actions associated with the fire alarm system.
  • Monitors, operates, and interprets information relevant to Life Safety and critical care systems within the hospital.
  • Dispatches appropriate engineering personnel to respond to activity associated with engineering equipment systems.
  • Generates Engineering Work Orders and Security Reports for all pertinent activity during each shift.
  • Operates each shift independently and makes decisions during emergency situations.
  • Documents and enters maintenance requests and alarms into Engineering work order system.
  • Documents and enters all Security requests and alarms into Security Incident Reporting and Investigation Management system.
  • Follows emergency chemical spill response procedures by notifying proper Safety or Radiation safety personnel.
  • Monitors multiple radio frequencies simultaneously and discerns priorities.
