Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field (mechanical or electrical engineering preferred). Higher degrees such as a master’s or Ph.D. can substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven ability to contribute to complex projects with a problem-solving orientation that prioritizes client needs.
  • Highest ethical standards.
  • Strong ability to distill complex technical findings into accessible summaries, tailor content to diverse stakeholders, and maintain consistency and rigor across multi-section documents with multiple contributors.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including strong organizational skills and experience coordinating interdisciplinary teams to manage timelines and deliverables.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people at all levels within an organization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence, enthusiasm, humility, and discretion.
  • Willingness for periodic travel.
  • Desire and ability to work remotely.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
  • National, state, and local building energy code development or implementation (e.g., California Title 24, Part 6; Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (ECCCNYS); ASHRAE 90.1; International Energy Conservation Code).
  • Federal and/or state appliance standards, test procedures, and specifications (e.g., DOE, California Title 20, ENERGY STAR).
  • Building performance standards.
  • Codes and standards for electric vehicle charging infrastructure or transportation electrification.
  • Research, testing, or standards development for water heating.
  • Research, testing, or standards development for motors and drives.
  • Experience with industrial process loads or industrial product energy efficiency measures.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% annually.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor for clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis.
  • Manage and contribute to multiple projects, including technical research and analysis, client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities include:
  • Scoping and launching new projects.
  • Supporting primary and secondary research.
  • Procuring test equipment and arranging laboratory tests.
  • Supporting laboratory and field investigations.
  • Fostering coalition-building.
  • Supporting legal, regulatory, and policy reviews.
  • Develop and maintain budget forecasts and project schedules across multiple projects.
  • Coordinate research with state programs and independent entities.
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables, including spreadsheets with supporting calculations, memos, reports, and presentations.
  • Contribute to business development and proposal writing.
