About The Position

Kamehameha Schools is seeking a Senior Consultant to join our Preschools Learning and Innovation team. This full-time position (M-F, 40 hours per week) plays a key leadership role in designing and advancing ʻāina-based education, extended learning opportunities, and initiatives that strengthen Native Hawaiian identity. The role supports the development of world-class Hawaiian culture-based education advances and initiatives tied to 'aina-based education, extended learning, and the strengthening of a Native Hawaiian identity. The consultant will develop and implement a system of support and engagement for the campus, 'ohana, and community to advance innovation for model 21st-century Hawaiian Learning environments.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in Hawaiian culture-based education.
  • Excellent in supervising instructional staff (observations, conferencing, data and feedback, and documentation).
  • Excellent in educational administration related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Excellent in designing professional development opportunities and working with diverse communities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve existing or potential problems.
  • Demonstrate ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with extremely confidential and sensitive information and understand privacy issues; work independently.
  • Outstanding personal integrity and ability to manage responsibilities in a manner beyond reproach.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple functions and priorities in an efficient manner.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, verbal, and written) to all levels of management, faculty, staff, external agencies, parents, and other school staff and community resource representatives.
  • Previous teaching experience with DOE, Charter, Private and/or higher education systems.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, and/or language.
  • Ability to travel to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required to meet goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge and familiarity of KS internal policies, procedures, Strategic Plan, vision, mission, and goals.
  • Experience in working with ethnically diverse student and staff populations, especially Native Hawaiians.
  • Experience in building working relationships with a wide variety of groups to forward the mission of the organization.
  • Highly skilled in facilitating and working across multiple groups to ensure alignment of interests and resource optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and designs the development of 'aina-based education, extended learning, and the strengthening of a Native Hawaiian identity through Kamehameha School's Preschools.
  • Designs Hawaiian Culture-Based Education professional development and learning experiences for teachers.
  • Provides support and leadership in the implementation and evaluation of best practices in teaching, learning, and innovation.
  • Develops and implements a system of support and engagement for the preschools, 'ohana, and community to advance innovation for model 21st-century Hawaiian Learning environments.
  • Collaboratively works with preschool leadership in understanding, analyzing, and interpreting data to maintain quality programming and instructional efficacy.
  • Serves as a strong partner/advocate to meet identified program and regional needs.
  • Promotes and builds positive, productive relationships with KS preschool educators, leaders, staff, and other partners and collaborators.
  • Develops teacher effectiveness and competencies through the supervisory process, professional development, coaching, and evaluation.
  • Participates in monitoring and improving the quality of instruction through the educator growth and evaluation cycle.
  • Creates and sustains an atmosphere of trust by encouraging, facilitating, and recognizing appropriate instructional risk-taking and innovation for growth.
  • Supervises implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including extended learning activities.
  • Makes appropriate and effective decisions for professional development content and strategies that elevate Hawaiian culture-based education as a system.
