Senior Consultant - Aviation Noise & Environmental
About The Position
Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. (HMMH), a leader in transportation environmental consulting, seeks aâ¯Seniorâ¯Consultant to join our growing Aviation Environmental & Sustainability Group. This remote position is based in San Diego, CA, with theâ¯optionâ¯to work from our San Diego office. Residency within commuting distance of San Diego International Airport (SAN) isâ¯required. You will contribute to noise and air quality studies, sustainability planning, environmental impact mitigation, regulatory compliance, and public engagement for airport projects worldwide. HMMH, founded in 1981, has a provenâ¯track recordâ¯of delivering expert environmental solutions to over 200 airports.
Requirements
- 3-8 years of relevant experience.
- BS, BA, or MS in a technical field (acoustics preferred; aerospace, physics, engineering, etc., accepted).
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills
- Experience with sound or professional measurement equipment.
- Proven project management and presentation skills.
- Comfortable engaging with clients, the public, and strangers in the field.
- Ability to write clear reports, letters, and proposals.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of acoustic/aviation terminology.
- Consulting experience.
- GIS, SQL, Python, AEDT, or NOISEMAP skills.
- Strong client relationship experience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct acoustical testing, field measurements, data analysis, and technical reporting for various acoustics projects.
- Manage projects, including budgets, contracts, equipment, and lab operations.
- Perform acoustical modeling, quality control, and analysis, including for airport sound insulation and other programs.
- Conduct outdoor fieldwork up to 2 weeks monthly or every other month.
- Train and supervise junior staff in technical areas (e.g., acoustical modeling, GIS, data analysis, project management).
- Develop and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with clients and subconsultants on contracts, task orders, and proposals (scopes, budgets, etc.).
- Stay current with industry trends and participate in professional societies/conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.
