About The Position

Shive-Hattery has an immediate opening for a Senior Construction Representative with 10+ years of experience to join our Des Moines, IA office. The Senior Construction Representative serves as a trusted on-site and client-facing leader during the construction phase of projects, acting as the primary liaison between owners, contractors, and design teams. This role is responsible for administering construction contracts, monitoring progress for conformance with design intent and contract documents, and coordinating with design professionals to resolve field issues. In addition to project administration responsibilities, this position plays a key role in client relationship management and business development, supporting the strategic growth of construction phase services in the West Des Moines area.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in construction administration, construction management, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, scheduling, and project coordination during the construction phase.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to resolve issues diplomatically and efficiently.
  • Proficiency with common construction administration tools and platforms (e.g., Appia, Doc Express, Procore, Bluebeam, Newforma, or similar).
  • Candidate should have a proven track record of outward facing business development and a willingness to engage with potential future clients.
  • This position supports numerous projects that require periodic time spent on active construction sites. Physical requirements may include climbing ladders and navigating varying jobsite conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Construction and contract administration for projects during the construction phase.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the design team and the contractor during construction.
  • Preparing project change orders, and pay application management.
  • Assist in evaluating contractor requests for scope, cost, and schedule impact, and provide input to support fair and informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with the project team to prepare responses and negotiate appropriate adjustments with contractors when needed.
  • Represent the firm professionally in meetings with clients, contractors, and public meetings, clearly communicating technical information to both expert and non-expert.
  • Collaborate with the design team to resolve field issues and unforeseen conditions.
  • Business development support, and client pursuits.
  • Mentorship and leadership support for internal team members.
