About The Position

The Senior Construction Project Manager at the University of Michigan will act as the representative of the AEC Construction group, overseeing projects from the design phase through to construction. This role involves ensuring that projects meet user requirements, adhere to safety regulations, and are completed on time and within budget. The manager will coordinate with various stakeholders, manage contractor relationships, and facilitate project closeout processes.

Requirements

  • Solid background in mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and building control systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an ABET accredited engineering program or an NAAB accredited first professional degree in Architecture.
  • Five or more years of experience in MEP and building control systems within healthcare or laboratory projects.
  • Five or more years of experience on institutional/commercial or industrial design/construction projects.
  • In-depth understanding of construction contracts, building and life safety codes, and environmental requirements related to construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to access project job sites and navigate uneven surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of MEP systems commissioning process.
  • Experience delivering hospital and healthcare projects using infection control measures for construction.
  • Registration as a professional engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with the design team in preparing design documents according to user programs and university requirements.
  • Monitor design impacts on schedule and budget, providing direction on construction fencing and access locations.
  • Recommend qualified bidders and lead the bid and award phases of projects.
  • Manage overall construction projects, including approving contractor pay applications and managing the change process.
  • Coordinate and communicate work with other campus departments and stakeholders.
  • Represent the interests of the funding department and coordinate field staff efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with safety measures and coordinate necessary inspections and reviews.
