Kennedy Jenks is seeking an experienced Civil/Mechanical Construction Inspector for a project in the Phoenix, AZ area. The ideal Civil/Mechanical Constructions Inspector will have an outstanding work ethic and high integrity to provide construction Inspection on water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Technical school and/or associates degree preferred. High School Diploma required.
  • 5 or more years experience with all facets of construction including civil and mechanical installations.
  • The ability to exercise deductive reasoning and independently resolve problems.
  • Experience using survey equipment to check and confirm construction.
  • Ability to interpret construction schedules
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with ability to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications for specialty inspections of steel, concrete, welding, coatings, and other aspects of infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Experience with sewer rehabilitation, municipal projects, water and wastewater pipelines, agriculture pump stations, and/or water or wastewater treatment plants, for both new construction and rehabilitation, is strongly preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Hr. Certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Primary duties of a Civil/Mechanical Construction Inspector are to inspect construction work to ensure conformance with contract documents and all applicable codes and standards.
  • Work includes preparation of daily written reports, contractor time and material records, review contractor’s request for additional compensation, preparation of descriptions/reasons/estimates for change orders, verification of work in place quantities for contractor payment applications, coordination of construction work within the public right-of-way, coordination of work with stakeholders, and ensuring the safety and quality of the work.
  • Prepare written communication between owner and contractor
  • Coordinate meetings with contractors, clients, and staff
  • Providing quality assurance of contractor work
  • Tracking contractor schedule and documentation compliance
  • Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses
  • Perform field materials sampling and testing that includes tests for: concrete slump and air content, concrete compressive specimens, compaction, moisture, and aggregate gradation.
  • Perform measurements and calculations necessary to determine quantity of work performed and materials required.
  • Check layout and dimensions of work by utilizing basic tape measures, rules and other instruments.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Compose reports with a daily log of construction activities, personnel assigned, equipment used, weather conditions, and other information pertinent to the progress of the work.
  • Write reports to document field inspections and tests performed.
  • Collaborate with other field representatives or project managers.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
