About The Position

The Senior Construction Engineer provides hands-on construction engineering support to superintendents and craft personnel, ensuring construction activities meet design, safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements. This role interfaces heavily with design, procurement, safety, quality, operations, and project controls, and plays a key role in constructability, work execution, and system turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with 5–7 years of practical experience in construction engineering or related areas OR Associate's degree with 7–9 years of practical experience OR High school diploma with 10–14 years of practical experience
  • General knowledge of system testing and operations is helpful to support system turnover and pre-operational testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of ASME piping codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform construction work planning, job hazard analyses, and material take-offs for piping systems and equipment.
  • DOE “Q” clearance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership training in methods improvement is desirable.
  • Prior active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
  • Previous SRS experience is preferred.
  • Experience using SRS-specific processes, procedures, systems, and programs is especially preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to construction superintendents and craft personnel.
  • Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Ensure construction activities are executed safely and to the highest quality standards.
  • Monitor cost and schedule performance for assigned work activities.
  • Coordinate construction activities with design, procurement, security, safety, operations, health physics, quality control, scheduling, cost, and management organizations.
  • Develop construction scope turnover packages and coordinate system completion and testing activities.
  • Direct preparation of construction work packages and ensure craft personnel understand work package requirements.
  • Coordinate with design organizations for timely issuance of design documents and design changes.
  • Lead constructability reviews and provide technical expertise related to construction methods and practices.
  • Provide technical and programmatic direction to subordinate construction engineering personnel as required.
  • Support construction testing and start-up activities.
  • Administer assigned subcontracts.
  • Disposition nonconformance reports and corrective action requests.
  • Design temporary construction facilities when requested.
  • Assist with establishing maintenance requirements for permanent plant equipment.
  • Coordinate subcontract activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Provide construction engineering support for fabrication, installation, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform field walk-downs and constructability reviews of design documents.
  • Develop material take-offs, construction execution plans, permits, and job hazard analyses.
  • Provide oversight and inspection of ongoing construction work.
  • Interface with quality personnel, design engineers, and construction management to resolve field issues.
  • Review and close construction work execution documentation.
  • Perform work in accordance with SRNS processes and procedures.
