As a Senior Construction Accountant , you will lead financial oversight of construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. You will manage job setup, budgeting, contract administration, billings, and job cost reporting while partnering closely with project managers and leadership. This role carries real accountability for financial accuracy and compliance across a growing portfolio of active construction projects.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of accounting experience with significant construction accounting background.
  • Advanced knowledge of job costing, WIP, retainage, and revenue recognition.
  • Experience managing accounts payable and receivable in a project-based environment.
  • Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Sage 300, Foundation, or Procore.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial setup for new projects, including cost codes, budgets, and billing structures.
  • Oversee job cost accounting and track costs, commitments, and budget variances.
  • Manage progress billings including AIA, retainage, lien waivers, and WIP schedules.
  • Ensure revenue recognition is accurate and compliant with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable across active construction projects.
  • Review and process subcontractor pay applications and contract change orders.
  • Reconcile job cost reports with the general ledger and support audits.
  • Partner with project managers on financial performance, forecasting, and risk.
