AeroParagon - Senior Computer Vision Engineer

FabricLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

AeroParagon is building intelligent counter‑drone systems to protect service members, critical infrastructure, and the public from threats posed by small unmanned aircraft. We combine autonomous aircraft, advanced sensing, and AI‑driven perception to detect, track, and intercept hostile drones in complex environments. Our flagship work includes a soldier‑portable counter‑drone interceptor and a server‑based detection platform that leverages existing security cameras to detect and track drones across large areas, creating an affordable, layered drone‑defense architecture for military and civilian customers. You will lead major parts of the perception stack for AeroParagon’s counter‑drone systems, with code running onboard a high‑speed interceptor UAV (embedded Linux / edge SoC) and on servers ingesting security‑camera streams for wide‑area drone detection. You'll prototype new ideas in detection and tracking, then harden them into production‑quality pipelines that run in real-time environments.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Math (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data science, or applied machine learning.
  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++ (Production-level code).
  • Hands-on experience with one or more deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Direct experience with classical CV (OpenCV) and/or deep‑learning‑based CV (object detection, segmentation).
  • Creating and curating datasets for computer vision (labeling, QA, train/val/test splits, basic metrics).
  • Low-ego, collaborative mindset; comfortable owning features end-to-end in a small team.
  • Willing to support occasional lab tests, field tests, and work with real hardware/logs, not just offline datasets.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of professional experience in Software Engineering, Data Science, or applied Machine Learning.
  • Experience shipping at least one real‑world CV/ML system (embedded device, robot, or production service), not just research prototypes.
  • Experience with GPU compute frameworks such as CUDA or OpenCL.
  • Experience training and deploying detectors/trackers, including the YOLO family, MobileNet-SSD, Detectron2, Faster/Mask R‑CNN, and similar approaches.
  • Real‑time embedded vision on platforms like Qualcomm RB5 or NVIDIA Jetson, including edge optimization (quantization, pruning, distillation, etc.).
  • Experience with multi‑camera / multi‑sensor systems (telephoto + wide‑FOV, RGB + thermal/LWIR) and basic alignment/fusion.
  • Experience with ROI/tiled pipelines for high‑resolution video and classical trackers (e.g., KCF, CSRT) to bridge between deep‑learning detections.
  • Experience with drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, ROS/ROS 2, and simulation/digital‑twin tools (Gazebo, Unity, Unreal).
  • Experience building automated data and ML pipelines (auto‑mining interesting frames, semi‑automated labeling, active‑learning loops).

Responsibilities

  • You take responsibility for perception modules from design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • You profile, test, and measure; reliability, latency, and failure modes all matter to you.
  • You are comfortable working at the interfaces between perception, autonomy, flight control, backend/server systems, and end users.
  • You communicate clearly, explain trade‑offs, and keep teammates in the loop during rapid iteration and field testing.
  • You stay up‑to-date with the latest CV/ML research and are eager to implement state‑of-the-art techniques when they make sense.

Benefits

  • Impact: Your algorithms will defend real civilian/military sites and real people from drones.
  • Technical challenge: Work at the intersection of computer vision, embedded AI, autonomy, and defense, under genuine real‑time and power constraints.
  • Team & culture: Join a tight‑knit, low‑ego team of founders and engineers with deep experience shipping complex hardware/AI products, in a culture that values ownership and intellectual honesty.
  • Growth & ownership: As an early senior hire on the perception side, you’ll help shape the technical roadmap, sensors, models, data strategy, and simulation infrastructure, and grow into broader leadership as we scale.
