About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an experienced Sr. Safety Compliance Engineer focusing on product safety requirements who will be responsible for providing global product compliance analysis and guidance to ensure that all safety design and regulatory requirements are satisfied for AWS Robotics equipment and Power Infrastructure of Datacenters in all countries where AWS business exists or will expand. GTPC is responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure equipment necessary to support the AWS services are imported/exported in a compliant manner across the multiple countries where AWS operates and will expand, including all product certification/safety regulations. You will interact with Development/Engineering Services, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, Legal, and other internal businesses and external stakeholders to drive global product safety compliance for Robotics Equipment and Power Infrastructure of Datacenters. The position will report directly to the AWS Product Compliance Engineering Manager, within the Global Trade and Product Compliance (GTPC) Organization.

Requirements

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of technical product compliance experience and deep product safety expertise in a complex technological environment.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals
  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship
  • Experience communicating complex ideas to technical and non-technical audience
  • Deep expertise in product safety design including electrical, mechanical, and functional safety; working knowledge for at least three of the following safety standards: IEC 62368-1, UL891, UL 508 A, IEC61439, UL857, IEC 62508, ISO 13840-1, and ANSI/RIA R15.08-1 and -2.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with hardware design teams throughout the product life cycle to obtain required product safety regulatory compliance documentation for Robotics Systems and Datacenter Power Infrastructure by: specifying regulatory and technical standards requirements; conducting specification/design reviews; managing pre-testing of hardware platforms developed by the design team; and supporting the team through product life cycle including factory audit after launch.
  • Establish safety compliance frameworks that enable AWS's transition to high-power density AI infrastructure, including HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) systems and power distribution architectures supporting higher rack power densities required for scaling AWS AI/ML services.
  • Lead proactive safety solutions for AI infrastructure products, ensuring compliance adherence and safe operation of power systems including 800+VDC distribution architectures.
  • Create procedures and guidelines to mitigate safety compliance issues early in the design phase, and ensure that devices meet governmental and industry safety regulations in international markets, with particular focus on datacenter power infrastructure and robotics applications.
  • Participate in, and approve, mechanical and electrical design reviews to ensure product safety mitigations are properly implemented during design phase, with emphasis on high-voltage power systems and robotic equipment safety including functional safety.
  • Track and influence emerging safety regulations and standards affecting AWS hardware operations, with focus on compliance risk management for power infrastructure and robotics portfolio.
