About The Position

This is a Career Service Senior Community Health Nurse position working in the Lee County Department of Health. This is a Senior Community Health Nurse in the Tuberculosis department at the Florida Department of Health in Lee County (DOH-Lee). Works directly under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist. This position provides services within the TB clinic as well as additional duties coordinating state program services. This position has access to the following information sets: TB records, immunizations, medical records, laboratory, HIV testing, and the HMS system. Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy and integrity of protected health information. Refers to and utilizes DOHP 50-10 Information Security and Privacy policy as required. The employee in this position may under certain circumstances take confidential information from the premises of DOH-Lee. Employee must always maintain the minimum required information in their control in a locked briefcase. Information should be returned to the Florida Department of Health-Lee before close of business if feasible. If not feasible, employee is granted permission to keep until next working day.

  • Licensure as Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
  • Must be willing to undergo FIT Testing
  • Required to maintain a current Basic Life Support CPR with AED (BLS) certification.
  • This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment
  • This position is classified as sensitive. This individual will perform tasks defined as sensitive and handles confidentialinformation. Background screening is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes and maintains health of individuals, families and community through appropriate preventative and rehabilitative measures.
  • Provides comprehensive nursing services in all FDOH Lee clinics and community settings as warranted. These services include childhood and adult immunizations, reproductive health services, assessment of vital signs, counseling, health screening, health education, referrals, and follow-up of the referrals.
  • Collects laboratory specimens.
  • Responsible for timely follow-up on abnormal lab results according to established protocols.
  • Maintains comprehensive quality records.
  • Collects and reports pertinent data to nursing supervisor, APRN, and/or physicians.
  • Provides appropriate case follow-up.
  • Participates in case conferences to confer with other professionals and to formulate and evaluate care plans.
  • Assists in record reviews.
  • Recognizes and understands the changes in the community and nursing practice which affects community health unit programs/plans.
  • Serves as staff advisor to student affiliates and new staff nurses.
  • Serves as a professional community resource for TB.
  • Assists with development and implementation of county/community activities to promote health and disease prevention to include TB/HIV. Responsible for follow-up of referrals to TB, PrEP, and Test and Treat Programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
