About The Position

The ACLU is seeking a Senior Communications Strategist for Reproductive Freedom to develop and execute communications strategies that advance the organization's work on reproductive rights. Requirements

  • Significant experience in media, strategic communications, journalism, content creation, digital communications, and public relations.
  • Experience in issue-based advocacy and public awareness campaigns.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively in writing and verbally to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with media and cultivating journalist relationships.
  • Proven judgment in breaking news and rapid response situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Associated Press style.

Responsibilities

  • Create multi-faceted communications strategies on civil liberties and civil rights issues.
  • Develop and implement organizational communications strategies to enhance ACLU's brand recognition.
  • Strategize on effective spokespeople for disseminating ACLU messages.
  • Develop comprehensive communications plans including goals, audience definitions, and media relations strategies.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to shape messaging for ACLU initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with key media personnel to increase coverage of ACLU issues.
  • Identify needs for digital content and collaborate with teams to produce materials.
  • Respond to breaking news events with sensitivity and judgment.
  • Create and refine various communications content including press releases and social media posts.
  • Pitch feature stories and prepare spokespeople for media appearances.
  • Conceptualize and produce video content related to civil liberties and civil rights issues.
  • Provide guidance to affiliates on communications materials and strategy.
