About The Position

Connect for Health Colorado has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Communications Manager. Connect for Health Colorado (C4HCO) is a public, nonprofit entity established by the Colorado General Assembly in 2011 to create a health insurance marketplace. Since 2013, we’ve been helping individuals, families, and small employers compare plans, apply for financial help, and buy health insurance. As Colorado’s official health insurance marketplace, we are the only place to apply for financial help to lower the monthly cost of premiums. Customers can shop online; get help by phone or online chat from Customer Service Center representatives; and access expert help from a statewide network of certified insurance Brokers and community-based Assisters. Our mission is to increase access, affordability, and choice for individuals and small employers purchasing health insurance in Colorado. For more information, visit ConnectforHealthCO.com Position Summary: The Senior Communications Manager reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications and leads the development of clear, strategic content for C4HCO. They manage a team of Content Specialists and serve as a key partner in shaping messaging for customers, stakeholders, and internal audiences. The Senior Communications Manager oversees the creation and review of content across multiple channels, including policy memos, newsletters, email campaigns, website copy, and customer-facing materials. They work closely with teams across the organization to translate complex health policy and program information into accessible communications that align with C4HCO's voice and priorities. In addition to content leadership, the Senior Communications Manager manages the intake and prioritization of communications requests, coordinates high-volume projects – including content strategy for the annual Open Enrollment period – and identifies opportunities to strengthen content processes and cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Colorado resident.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, journalism or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6-8 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field; at least 2-3 years of managing people or teams is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop staff, build collaborative teams, and create a culture of trust and accountability is strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats – newsletters, emails, web content, customer notices, and internal communications.
  • Experience managing content development processes and maintaining editorial standards across different channels and audiences.
  • Ability to translate complex information (policy, technical, regulatory) into clear, accurate, customer-friendly language.
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously, including intake prioritization, timeline tracking, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and adapting quickly when priorities shift – especially during high-volume periods like Open Enrollment.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse internal stakeholders (marketing, policy, operations, legal) to ensure accurate and priority-aligned messaging.
  • Familiarity with health insurance, the Affordable Care Act, state-based health insurance marketplaces, or the health care industry is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish language) are strongly preferred but not required.
  • Experience using:

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Content Specialists and provides direction, coaching, and feedback to ensure high-quality, timely work.
  • Reviews, edits, and approves team content, offering clear guidance to maintain quality and accuracy.
  • Helps develop and execute communications strategies aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Leads content development and tailors messages for various audiences, including customers, insurance issuers, certified assisters, insurance brokers, and community partners.
  • Establishes and maintains editorial standards to ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
  • Drafts, edits, and refines written communications – including policy memos, newsletters, emails, website copy, and customer notices – following C4HCO's voice and tone.
  • Translates complex health policy and program information into clear, customer-friendly content for diverse audiences.
  • Supports internal communications through staff updates and organizational announcements.
  • Assists with executive communications, including CEO blog posts, leadership messages, talking points, and briefing materials.
  • Manages the intake of communications requests, prioritizing projects that align with organizational goals and departmental resources.
  • Manages multiple communications projects, tracking timelines, deliverables, and approvals.
  • Provides content leadership during the annual Open Enrollment period, coordinating high-volume, time-sensitive communications – at times under rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Monitors progress and adjusts plans to address shifting priorities or emerging issues.
  • Partners with colleagues in marketing and communications, business intelligence, policy, operations, legal, and other teams to ensure accurate content aligned with C4HCO’s priorities.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve content processes, project management, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Performs other duties in support of departmental and organizational priorities.
