About The Position

The Estimator is responsible for estimating, scheduling, operating, and managing roofing, sheet metal and waterproofing opportunities from discovery through contract signing. The position is to ensure that all associated work is secured and performed in a timely and cost-effective manner, in accordance with applicable plans and specifications, company policies and procedures, along with sound roofing practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, college preferred
  • 10-15 years of selling experience in commercial roofing industry
  • Ability to understand both technical and financial aspects of subspecialty construction operations
  • Problem solving ability with the ability to manage difficult customers
  • Strong leadership traits and mentoring abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program, including strong analytical abilities
  • Superior listening and communications Skills
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates
  • Experience managing people and projects
  • Math proficiency
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of business and management principles
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Generate estimates from plan drawings, specifications, field notes, field drawings, and actual field inspections
  • Understand the contract to ensure that ABC Roofing’s responsibilities and scope of the work can be achieved
  • Responsible for catching deviations from the specifications and plans as it relates to scope, contract and schedule
  • Obtain all necessary information, such as field inspections, measurements, photographs, and sketches required to provide accurate customer pricing
  • Submit proposals to customers with help from Proposal Coordinator, as needed
  • Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors and property managers
  • Maintain current technical and field knowledge of multiple roofing systems and repair options, with a primary focus on solutions for existing buildings
  • Create cost budgets for various roof solutions and proposals to effectively present to customer
  • Provide input on pricing of roof solutions and help establish value added sales messages
  • Develop new opportunities and accounts
  • Attend weekly scheduling and sales meetings in person
  • Monitor job costs against original estimates, budgets and change orders
  • Oversee project closeouts and ensure warranty documents are requested and received
  • Execute Contracts with Subcontractors and Owners
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure the successful completion of a project in accordance with how it was estimated/bid
