About The Position

Ready to lead complex aerospace machining? Join Zenix Aerospace’s Jet Products team in Kearny Mesa. This full-time, first-shift role (Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm) blends leadership with hands-on machining on state-of-the-art equipment. What you’ll do Own setups and production on conventional and up to 5-axis CNC equipment, taking jobs from printed work orders to finished parts with minimal supervision. Translate drawings and blueprints into tooling plans, workholding strategies, and numerical control sequences. Mentor machinists—demonstrate techniques, share best practices, and support skills growth. Validate in-process and final part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, bar gauges, templates, and fixtures. Troubleshoot tooling and machine issues; perform routine maintenance and identify repairs. Document setups thoroughly to keep production flowing; communicate special tooling needs and exceptions. Coordinate across departments/shifts; maintain SQIDPP boards and visual performance metrics. Participate in Daily Management board meetings; discuss Safety, Quality, Delivery, Efficiency, and Utilization. Drive continuous improvement in lean practices, quality, cost, and delivery; meet daily/weekly/monthly output goals. Act as the Supervisor’s backup and interdepartmental liaison while maintaining a minimum 50% utilization on direct labor hours; support occasional overtime to meet customer commitments. Promote a clean, safe, and 5S-aligned work environment (including machine, tooling, and area cleanup).

Requirements

  • Blueprint fluency with dimensional, true position, and circularity callouts.
  • Shop math, GD&T, and feeds/speeds expertise; ability to monitor and control equipment.
  • Fixture setup (clamping, centering, indicating) and cutting tool setup/insert changes.
  • Measurement proficiency: calipers, micrometers, bar gauges.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, computerized spreadsheets, and desktop publishing software.
  • High school diploma/GED preferred; vocational training a plus.
  • 5+ years CNC setup and operation (or equivalent).
  • 4+ years aerospace manufacturing preferred.
  • Prior Leadman/lead experience preferred.
