About The Position

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to support the engineering, implementation, testing, and delivery of cloud-enabled satellite ground system solutions using SDL’s Information Systems Engineering practices. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on expertise in cloud-based services, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills. This role works closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to design, deploy, and integrate, secure, scalable cloud architectures and mission-critical information system solutions. This role focuses on engineering execution and requirements management. This position is on-site, non-remote at our North Logan, UT or our Albuquerque, NM location. On-site work is required due to classified systems, hardware integration, and secure lab environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering science with 10+ years of experience, or master’s with 8+ years
  • Demonstrated experience owning requirements engineering for complex information systems
  • Proven ability to translate stakeholder requirements into implementable technical designs
  • Strong hands-on experience implementing cloud and hybrid systems in AWS (or equivalent)
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of networking, identity, security architecture, and system integration
  • Demonstrated experience with automation, optimization, and CI/CD pipeline architecture
  • Experience migrating or integrating on-premises systems with cloud-based services
  • Ability to document, communicate, and justify engineering decisions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting security compliance and accreditation activities
  • Experience with container platforms and orchestration (EKS, AKS, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies to define requirements and develop systems
  • Experience with national security and Air Force space and ground systems
  • Experience with Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC)
  • Knowledge of satellite communication protocols and standards
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices related to satellite operations
  • Experience with satellite ground station equipment, including antennas and RF systems
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and their integration with ground systems
  • Familiarity with model-based system engineering (MBSE) principles, methodologies and supporting tools

Responsibilities

  • Owns stakeholder requirements engineering, ensuring requirements are correctly elicited, decomposed, traced, verified, and implemented
  • Develops engineering descriptions that translate verified requirements into detailed, buildable designs
  • Conducts trade studies, alternatives analysis, and gap analysis driven by requirements
  • Implements cloud infrastructure and services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Designs, builds, and maintains automation and CI/CD pipelines supporting cloud platforms and mission services
  • Integrates cloud systems with networking, identity, security, and data services prioritizing cloud native solutions
  • Supports security, compliance, and accreditation activities during design and implementation
  • Documents engineering decisions and rationale
  • Identifies and mitigates technical risks throughout the system lifecycle
  • Supports operations and sustainment by delivering well-documented, maintainable systems
