A reasonable estimate of the current range is: Grade: Technical 410 Pay Range: $116,000.00 - $174,100.00 Job Description The Senior Cloud Engineer provided architectural direction and implementation for cloud-based infrastructure and networking solutions. They direct and support the engineering efforts for student and employee facing infrastructure technologies. They'll also mentor team members in strategic and tactical efforts. They are the in-house expert on design, automation, and scaling solutions in a cloud-based environment. Role Overview Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and support scalable, secure cloud infrastructure. This role partners closely with engineering teams to enable reliable systems, modern DevOps practices, and effective use of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of AWS services including S3, EC2, RDS, SQS, IAM, and Route 53.
  • Experience with Linux system administration.
  • Scripting or programming experience in Bash, Python, Java, or Node.js.
  • Experience with CI/CD, GitFlow, and tools such as Jenkins or Travis CI.
  • Familiarity with serverless services (Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch).
  • Understanding of DevOps, Scrum, ITIL, and containerization or virtualization.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, New Relic, Nagios, or similar).
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field.
  • 7+ years of related experience, including 3+ years with AWS.
  • Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure roadmaps.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and reliability.
  • Automate cloud platforms and maintain monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Design and maintain server, storage, network, and security infrastructure.
  • Provide tools and infrastructure to support DevOps and development teams.
  • Mentor DevOps and Cloud Engineers.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Deliver AWS-based solutions for ongoing initiatives.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
