About The Position

The Public Cloud Enablement Engineering team at Farmers is responsible for analysis, design, implementation and onboarding of cloud-based infrastructure and services. Cloud Enablement Platform Engineer designs, implements, and maintains products and services across multiple cloud platforms. Ensures all solutions adhere to established architectural design patterns, governance standards and security controls for high complexity configurations. Evaluates business needs, defines functional requirements and technical specifications. Develops secure and efficient updates or enhancements to cloud-based solutions. Specializes in methodologies, various programming languages, Infrastructure as Code platforms and automation tools. Performs coaching for new staff engineers.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of related experience required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude.
  • Advanced experience with public and/or private cloud service offerings, creation and distribution of images, programming and scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure and configuration as code solutions, configuration management software.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced experience interacting with systems and enterprise architects, executive and senior management stakeholders, business units, and developers.

Responsibilities

  • Consults independently on cloud projects of varying complexity.
  • Applies engineering concepts and principles with current architectural and governance guidelines.
  • Reviews architectural designs for applications to ensure reliable and performant design patterns are implemented.
  • Specializes running and scaling distributed software systems.
  • Defines and tracks operational metrics for production performance, reliability, scalability, and availability dimensions.
  • Handles complex projects requiring interaction with multiple stakeholders, teams and manage multiple dependencies.
  • Acts as subject matter expert to new staff engineers.
  • Assesses the production readiness of new cloud platform services and defines operational characteristics and maintainability in respect to the current standards and industry best practices.
  • Creates and maintains runbooks/playbooks and supporting documentation as it relates to all aspects of the cloud platform implementation and operational support independently.
  • Develops and maintains complex scalable automation pipelines utilizing Infrastructure as Code methodologies to provision, deploy and manage cloud infrastructure and is subject matter expert to new staff engineers.
  • Specializes with troubleshooting sessions.
  • Works with application teams, analyzing logs and data, opens service requests, works with vendors, partners, and drives problem resolution.
  • Monitors performance and capacity metrics for technology solutions while identifying and developing plans to address long term trends or issues.
