For this role, we are seeking a Senior Cloud Database Administrator with a balance of skills in database design, physical implementation, and performance tuning. You will be part of a team that is supporting cloud Data Warehouse and Data Lake environments implemented on AWS or Azure for some of Epsilon's most prominent Database Marketing clients.

  • Develop, configure, and manage Data Warehouse database systems and cloud platform work.
  • Supervise and report on performance metrics, system health, and logging compliance for database services and appliances.
  • Perform core DBA tasks: backup/recovery, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and SQL optimization.
  • Design database schemas and optimize data types and distribution for peak performance.
  • Configure and implement workload management for resource allocation and query handling.
  • Support users and troubleshoot data access applications and ad hoc queries.
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts for database activities (data loading, unloading, maintenance).
  • Manage data replication, encryption, backup storage, and archiving procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and best practices for availability, security, backup/recovery, and data integrity.
  • Evaluate new database technologies and recommend solutions to technical leadership.
  • Chip in on documentation of database standards, guidelines, and operational procedures.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, leveraging experience and judgment to plan and deliver results.
  • Participate in 24x7x365 on-call rotation for production support.
  • BS in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4-6 years of general database administration experience.
  • 3+ years handling Data Warehouse technologies (e.g., IBM Netezza, Greenplum, or similar Postgres-based appliances).
  • 1+ years handling cloud database services (e.g., Amazon Redshift, AWS RDS for Postgres, Aurora Postgres, Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience working with vendor support to resolve issues within SLA.
  • Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries and interpret query plans.
  • Proficiency in analyzing database statistics and performance metrics.
  • Solid understanding of backup/recovery methodologies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across application, database, network, and appliance tiers.
  • Adhering to SDLC, Change Management, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Solid Unix/Linux and shell scripting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python or Scala (a plus).
