About The Position

The Marcus Autism Center is seeking an academic clinical psychologist for a leadership position in clinical research operations. The Marcus Autism Center is one of the largest academic health centers in the US serving children with autism and related neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families, with a strong commitment to health equity. It is also a hub for research with a portfolio ranging from functional genomics to behavioral neuroscience, early brain development, clinical trials and implementation science. We are recruiting for a leadership position for our Clinical Assessment Core, which serves as the clinical nexus for the entire research enterprise. The selected clinician will be a core faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at a rank commensurate with the candidate's academic achievements. We are looking for a leading clinician committed to the highest level of excellence in clinical characterization for research, who has expertise in standardized developmental, cognitive and diagnostic procedures. Clinical experience with young children is highly desirable. This clinician will work closely with Dr. Cheryl Klaiman, Director of Clinical Research Operations, and will collaborate closely with Dr. Warren Jones, Director of Research, and Dr. Ami Klin, Director of the Center and Division Chief. The Marcus Autism Center has wide-ranging research and training collaborations with other divisions and scientific programs at Emory and CHOA, including the Behavioral & Mental Health Center led by Dr. John Constantino and the Center for Neuroscience Research led by Dr. Timothy Gershon, as well as with Emory's Department of Human Genetics led by Dr. Peng Jin and Emory's School of Public Health led by Dr. Daniele Fallin. Collaborations also extend to community-based and state agencies such as EasterSeals, Jewish Federation, Atlanta Public Schools, LaAmistad, and GA Departments of Public Health, Early Care & Learning, and Behavioral Health.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in direct assessment and care of patients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting (consideration given for specialized training areas in lieu of direct experience)
  • 3 years of experience in a supervisory role with fellows, interns, and/or students
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology
  • Georgia licensed psychologist
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience in supervision
  • Experience in providing family therapy/counseling

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective delivery of services (e.g., psychological assessments, consultation, and therapy) appropriate to the patient's specific needs and severity level of disability or impairment.
  • Integrates infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development, including referral to outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Provides appropriate assessment and treatment, including modifications for special population(s).
  • Develops and successfully implements assessment standards and treatment plans that support established goals.
  • Documents weekly/monthly treatment notes and assessment reports following established standards.
  • Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards, including liaison services to patient's local school systems to assist with school re-entry and consultation for individual education program development as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and practices family-centered care.
  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
  • Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of understanding.
  • Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
  • Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patient's program.
  • Evaluates patient and family psychosocial needs and provides appropriate direction to the team to meet these needs.
  • Maintains an emphasis on minimizing duplication and increasing efficiency.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement, meeting required continuing education standards.
  • Provides clinical supervision to fellows, interns, psychometrists, students, and other employees as assigned.
  • Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
  • Participates in establishing innovative programs within the department related to diagnosis, treatment, management, and training.
  • Coordinates training and/or research initiatives in the department to achieve measurable performance goals and expectations.
  • Develops and oversees policies and procedures for training/research.
  • Leads meetings and ensures communication of operational developments in training/research with department staff, other departments, and hospital administration.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital and government regulations regarding training/research.
  • Monitors timelines and takes corrective action for the achievement of training/research goals.
