About The Position

The Senior Clinical Exercise Physiologist will provide direct patient assessment and management in the BMC Stress Testing Laboratories and/or Cardiac Rehabilitation & Prevention Program under the supervision of the Operations Manager. This full-time position involves evaluating patients for appropriateness of testing, ensuring patient safety, and performing various stress tests. The role also includes responsibilities in cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary function testing, and equipment management, while adhering to established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology; Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology preferred.
  • BLS, ACLS, and ACSM certifications required.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a hospital setting or similar setting as an Exercise Physiologist or in Cardiac Rehab setting.
  • Knowledge of ACSM stress testing guidelines.
  • Experience in Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation setting and/or Stress Testing preferred.
  • Ability to present professional literature/research at departmental Journal Club Education Series.
  • Proficiency with exercise testing procedures and medical terminology.

  • Experience in pediatric stress testing.
  • Ability to carry out senior administrative duties as requested.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work directly with patients and effectively interact with staff.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients for appropriateness of testing, patient safety, and correct type of test and protocol.
  • Communicate pertinent information with supervising physicians, nurses, sonographers, and other physiologists.
  • Perform stress testing of outpatients and inpatients, including exercise tolerance tests and various echocardiograms.
  • Provide patient information, explain testing methods and procedures, and obtain patient consent.
  • Select appropriate testing protocol according to patient clinical presentation.
  • Monitor cardiovascular and pulmonary parameters during tests.
  • Calculate and record necessary parameters and provide initial interpretation of electrocardiographic tracings.
  • Create electronic records of exams and document pertinent information.
  • Respond to medical emergencies in Stress Testing Labs and assist physicians.
  • Provide education and instruction to hospital personnel and students.
  • Coordinate patient-specific imaging protocol with physician staff for nuclear stress testing.
  • Develop specific exercise training programs for cardiac rehabilitation patients.
  • Perform ongoing clinical assessments during rehabilitation sessions.
  • Educate patients on cardiovascular/pulmonary topics.
  • Maintain AACVPR staff competency requirements.
  • Perform metabolic testing and basic pulmonary function testing.
  • Ensure all equipment is in working condition and manage technical components.
