SUMMARY: Manages personnel in the unit to ensure claim processing in a prompt, professional and efficient manner in accordance with company guidelines and procedures. May manage complex claim files. Reviews claim files providing direction and settlement authorization.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree from an accredited institution.
  • 10 years’ successful claims handling including advanced skills in coverage, investigation, negotiation, salvage, and subrogation is a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as Manager is a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with multi-line claims; heavy emphasis on Commercial Garage/Auto, Commercial Liability, Material Damage and Commercial General Liability.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with multi-state responsibilities is a plus.
  • Experience with Excess and Surplus lines is a plus.
  • Current resident adjuster’s license.
  • Non-resident adjuster license where required in the state where ACIC does business.
  • Proficient knowledge of and adherence to state laws and regulations governing the handling of property and casualty claims.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Advanced communication skills are required to understand, interpret, and convey technical information.
  • Proficient understanding of accounting principles, construction, underwriting, marketing and auto physical damage estimating.
  • Knowledge of medical terms and legal issues.

  • Proficient knowledge of coverage, investigation, negotiation, salvage, arbitration subrogation, construction, and auto physical damage.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or diagram form. Reasoning; dealing with problems involving a few variables in standard situations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing hired claim supervisors through continuous coaching, training, and evaluating.
  • Direct examiners/adjusters in the proper investigation of coverage and liability. issues and extend settlement authority to effect accurate, timely, cost-effective handling of claims.
  • Give technical direction to both supervisors and adjusters.
  • Manage litigation, subrogation, and salvage to ensure cost effective returns.
  • Furnish appropriate weekly and monthly management reports/results to Director of Claims.
  • Assist in training and developing adjusters.
  • Interpret insurance contracts.
  • Conduct monthly quality control reviews of claim files.
  • Ensure employee objectives, performance and evaluations are consistent with department goals and objectives.
  • Manage performance, resolve conflicts and opportunities, and distribute and check work.
  • Recommend new hires, salary increases, and promotion and termination of associates.
  • Consistent contact with all stakeholders including but not limited to claims directors, examiners, adjusters, insureds, claimants, attorneys, vendors, agents and other department managers.
  • Develop relationships with auditors and government/regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of pertinent information.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
