We specialize in analysis, design, evaluation, monitoring, and rehabilitation for a wide variety of transportation infrastructure projects. We offer a wide range of expertise to support client needs for both new and existing transportation infrastructure. As a Civil Transportation Associate at Thornton Tomasetti, you will contribute to a broad range of complex infrastructure projects from planning through construction. You will work alongside a talented, interdisciplinary teams using tools like Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads to efficiently deliver high quality designs in compliance with good engineering practice and customer expectations. You will lead key aspects of project development, mentor junior staff, and engage with clients who value both technical rigor and design vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in civil infrastructure design, including roadway and utility design using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with federal, NYS, and NYC agency guidelines and requirements (e.g., FHWA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDDC, MTA D&C).
  • PE license in NY or demonstrated progress toward licensure (additional compensation upon completion).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, eager to work on city-shaping projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead transportation infrastructure projects from concept to construction, producing detailed 3D models, plans, and documentation that clearly convey requirements and methods.
  • Collaborate with urban planners, landscape architects, building architects, structural engineers, and partnering firms to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
  • Interface with clients and project stakeholders, articulating technical concepts and design strategies through compelling written, verbal, and visual communication.
  • Contribute to proposals and pursuits for new projects, helping shape scope, approach, and schedules with creativity and insight.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers and CAD designers.
