About The Position

Senior Civil-Structural Engineer performs engineering assignments for the Engineering Services Department (ESD) for the respective site as part of the Combined Operations, Services, Maintenance, and Infrastructure Contract (COSMIC). Candidate will perform complex civil, structural, architectural engineering tasks and provide technical support in compliance with current industry, code, and site standards. Specific engineering tasks include project planning and development, preliminary concepts and trade studies, design development, construction monitoring, analysis and modeling, and cost estimating for facilities, technical systems, and Special Test Equipment (STE). The Senior Civil-Structural Engineer also assists other discipline engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods, and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience with civil-structural design principles and practices; Master’s in Science degree may substitute and count towards years of related experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure registered in the state of Mississippi or Louisiana, or ability and desire to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Familiarity with ASCE, ANSI/AISC, ACI, AWWA, AWS, AWC, NFPA, EPA, IBC/ICC, LEED and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Software experience in one or more of the following: PTC (Windchill, Mathcad, Creo), Autodesk (AutoCad, Revit, Civil3D, ProEst), Bentley (STAAD, RAM, Microstation), RISA, HiltiProfis, EnerCalc, ArcGIS, ANSYS, Trimble and scanning/surveying instruments.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire.
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Will ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner.
  • Occasional travel and project support at Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF), Louisiana.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of civil engineering designs for construction of new or modification to existing facilities and sitewide systems (civil, environmental, geotechnical, structural, water resources, transportation).
  • Develops design proposals consisting of scope of work, technical requirements, design cost and design schedule.
  • Monitors and reports on the status of all current design projects weekly.
  • Develops structural analysis models, finite element analyses, and other numerical simulations as required for the design of facility systems: Systems include, but are not limited to, piping (support systems), roads/parking lots, horizontal and vertical structures, High Pressure Industrial Water (HPIW), sewer, potable water, and ground improvement.
  • Prepares plans and specifications for construction packages using design software and in conjunction with other project team members.
  • Develops estimated cost of construction for completed designs.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other organizations and engineering disciplines.
  • Assists in the review of vendor/contractor submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and change orders to bring product design from engineering phase to completed construction.
  • Should be skilled in reading and creating fabrication and construction drawings and possess a working knowledge and understanding of the fundamental components and materials used in the construction of these systems.
  • Should have a working knowledge of fabrication, welding, manufacturing, testing, and examination methods used in the construction and repair of civil infrastructure.
  • Should be capable of performing engineering analyses required by governing code(s) and have experience utilizing computer modeling techniques and software(s) available in the industry for such purpose.
  • Provide peer review of engineered packages (drawings, models, specifications, studies, reports, analyses, cost estimates), including support to other discipline led design packages.
  • Manage discipline workload data, provide staffing recommendations, assist in candidate interviews, mentor discipline resources, technical oversight, and assign department resources to tasks.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for all site engineering matters in their field of expertise.
  • Must comply with all applicable safety and health related policies and procedures.
  • Conduct site visits with designers/drafters and other engineers to field verify as-builts, research site conditions, and develop project design strategies.
