Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond? Development Operations Test Systems Engineering (TSE) Group is seeking an experienced Senior Civil / Structural Design Engineer. TSE is responsible for the design of new mechanical, electrical, and physical infrastructure systems required to meet test objectives for research and development of jet engines and component testing within Pratt and Whitney’s Development Operations. The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer will work commercial & military programs, as well as capital infrastructure improvement projects. The engineer will need to be well-versed in foundation, structural steel, and reinforced concrete designs. The typical design sequence starts by understanding the requirements for the job, conceptualizing a design, followed by engineering design and analysis, and finally product definition and drafting. The designs need to consider factors such as safety, adherence to applicable codes, budget, schedule, feasibility & environmental impact. The engineer will also need to coordinate with local officials during permitting activities and coordinate with contractors during onsite construction. The candidate shall be a self-starter that is customer-oriented and well organized. They need to be comfortable presenting technical content to a wide-ranging audience, leading a team and providing technical direction to A&E design firms, and construction contractors. Development Operations provides services to support future products for global commercial airlines, industrial partners and military customers. Services include Assembly, Instrumentation and Test of engines and rigs and the associated facilities, hardware, data systems, software and technology to support this. Development Operations delivers our services in a safe, efficient and sustainable environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
  • 5 years of design experience or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of design experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Solid foundation in civil and structural engineering with well-rounded experience with reinforced concrete and structural steel design with the ability to apply their knowledge to complex issues in a design environment
  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for product definition and structural analysis / design software such as STAAD.Pro
  • Familiarity with Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS workbench, and classical methods of analysis
  • Active Professional Engineering license registered in the State of Florida
  • Familiarity with Palm Beach County permitting and zoning processes
  • Familiar and competent with high level aspects of mechanical engineering design
  • Experience with gas turbine special test equipment and facilities
  • OSHA 510 or equivalent certification
  • Existing US Government Security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Design of structures and facilities to support jet engine and engine component rig testing
  • Determine design tasks required and follow through with minimal direction
  • Design of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures in compliance with Florida Building Codes, AISC Steel Construction Manual, American Concrete Institute Codes and Guidelines, and other industry-applicable codes
  • Design of mechanical equipment and building foundations, paving plans, and stormwater drainage plans
  • Work closely with a team of mechanical, electrical and project engineers to develop practical, cost-effective solutions that meet project requirements
  • Creation, review and approval of product definition data (prints and models)
  • Develop and lead a civil/structural engineering design from start to finish
  • Conduct plan reviews and provide technical direction to A&E consultants
  • Travel is up to 10% domestically.
