About the position

We are managing complex, large-scale commercial and infrastructure projects from conceptual planning, through design, and construction. Join our civil engineering design group to collaborate on projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling. Stantec's New York City office is seeking an Associate, Civil Project Manager with minimum of 15 years of engineering design experience to lead the pursuit and delivery of urban infrastructure projects in the New York Metropolitan area. We are looking for someone who is technically proficient, takes initiative, is a team player, and is looking for a challenge. The New York City office offers opportunities for rapid growth through marketing and business development, client exposure, and efficient delivery. Further opportunity awaits to grow into further technical, practice, and/or operations leadership positions. This position would assume an Associate level leadership position with expectations for further growth by leading client meetings, performing financial and schedule management, coordinating tasks and personnel, and providing technical leadership and mentoring of junior staff. This individual will help shape and develop our talented local team while being an integral part of Stantec's continued growth in the region and country.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage multiple projects serving as the Project Manager, Technical Lead, and/or Task Manager for civil infrastructure projects.
  • Plan, organize, and manage the production of project deliverables to ensure on time delivery, technical quality, and within budget.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external clients, consultants, public agencies.
  • Serve as the project's point of contact with clients, agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Manage and monitor schedule and budget performance of assigned projects.
  • Provide direct supervision to staff; develop staff skills and abilities by providing mentorship to strengthen technical abilities and guide career development.
  • Review team's work and provide technical guidance on design approach and challenges.
  • Provide personal guidance on technically complex projects and act as a resource by providing guidance to other team members.
  • Develop positive relations with existing and prospective clients.
  • Develop proposal documentation including project scope, budgets, and design approach for projects of all sizes.
  • Coordinate scope and deliverables with internal disciplines and external subconsultants.
  • Coordinate and develop proposal graphics illustrating technical scope.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Project coordination and management experience with the ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
  • Experience with preparing proposal documentation including scope and fee.
  • Working knowledge of the permit and approval process with the following clients preferred: NYSDOT, PANYNJ, Metro North Railroad, LIRR, TBTA, NYCT, NYC DDC/EDC/DEP/DOB/SBS/DOT/DPR, NYSDEC, USACE and/or Private Real Estate Developers.
  • Experience with concept development, site planning, roadway design, grading and drainage, utility design, construction staging and MPT.
  • Working knowledge of coordination with City and State Agencies for project permits and approvals.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex topics and lead a team of junior designers.
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
  • May have experience with alternative Project Delivery Methods such as Design-Build, Progressive-Design-Build and/or other methods.
  • Prior experience in design and modeling software such as AutoCAD Civil3D, Bentley OpenRoads, Bentley InRoads.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (New York State preferred or able to obtain within 6 months of start date).
