About the position

AECOM is seeking out a well qualified and motivated Senior Civil Engineer with a background in highway and roadway design for a great role in our Colorado Springs, CO office. This position serves as a senior technical resource and will act as a technical advisor for the team. The Senior Civil Engineer will provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise, develop study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost-effective work by others, and participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. Responsibilities include developing construction cost estimates, performing quality control reviews of design calculations or drawings, preparing technical specification sections, and guiding the drafting team in the preparation of drawings from early stages of design to final contract plans. The role also involves meeting with clients to ensure their needs are met.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical resource and technical advisor for the team.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design.
  • Develop study and design procedures for high quality cost-effective work.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepare technical specification sections.
  • Provide input to the development of engineering budget and schedule.
  • Initiate and create project designs and drawings/plans for transportation and/or civil design projects.
  • Perform detailed design including preparation of complete calculation packages.
  • Guide drafting team for preparation of drawings.
  • Understand the importance of review and quality control.
  • Prepare and contribute to the development and implementation of technical approach in projects.
  • Oversee the work of less experienced designers.
  • Meet with clients to ensure client needs are met.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with design software including MicroStation and OpenRoads.
  • Familiar with MS Office software (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Experience designing highway/roadway systems in Colorado.
  • Previous design experience on transportation projects including Schematic Development and Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE - Colorado).
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with Business Development/Client Relations.
