About The Position

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Senior Child Life Specialist to join their team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing child life services for designated areas in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and under the general guidance of a designated Supervisor or Director. The Senior Child Life Specialist is expected to possess advanced clinical skills and serve as a role model for peers and other staff. Key responsibilities include formally precepting new department staff, providing departmental and interdisciplinary education, and coordinating clinical/program development activities.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Child Life, Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.
  • CCLS certification by the Child Life Certifying Committee.
  • At least 5 years of relevant child life clinical experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes knowledge and resources to assess, plan and prioritize appropriate child life and interdisciplinary interventions.
  • Demonstrates, explains and provides stress reduction techniques before, during, and/or after stressful experiences to facilitate adaptive coping in consideration of developmental, emotional, situational, and behavioral factors.
  • Provides opportunities for and facilitates a variety of group and/or individual recreational and play activities that promote normalization, development, learning, self-expression, and coping.
  • Facilitates positive relationships with family members, using knowledge and resources to accommodate cultural needs and to bridge differences.
  • Provides, through direct and indirect involvement, a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals and groups.
  • Provides education regarding illness/condition, treatment, and coping techniques to patients, family members, and the larger community as appropriate.
  • Builds and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team members, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care, safety, family-centeredness, and patient/family satisfaction.
  • Participates leadership in ongoing student program development, management and evaluation.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to enhance job performance and directly contribute to the accomplishment of department annual goals and action plans.
  • Upholds professional code of ethical responsibility (CLC, 2011) including the establishment of therapeutic relationships with patients and families that are clear, caring, and boundaried.
  • Role models documentation and data collection of services provided to patients/families appropriately, effectively, and in a timely manner.
  • Meets competencies to serve as Facilitator for department clinical supervision groups.
  • Represents department as appropriate on interdisciplinary committees or work groups.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
