Senior Chief Engineer - JLL What this job involves: The Senior Chief Engineer is the senior technical leader responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of all critical building systems supporting GMP manufacturing, laboratories, utilities, and infrastructure. This role drives system reliability, leads engineering teams, maintains audit readiness, and ensures alignment with FDA, OSHA, environmental, and internal quality standards. This role directly supports uptime, risk mitigation, emergency response readiness, and the strategic objectives of JLL and site leadership. What your day-to-day will look like: Lead emergency response with urgency, technical accuracy, and command presence. Conduct monthly engineering emergency drills covering system failures, power events, and infrastructure interruptions. Maintain real‑time readiness of generators, UPS systems, fire life safety equipment, and other critical systems. Ensure full training compliance for all emergency roles and engineering personnel. Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentorship for nighttime engineering staff. Deliver monthly technical training sessions on HVAC, MEP, BAS, utilities, and mechanical systems. Develop job aids and technical instructions to support consistent and compliant work execution. Review and improve job plans and documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, and reliability. Conduct weekly performance reviews of critical systems and utilities, identifying vulnerabilities early. Implement Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies across all major systems. Ensure preventive maintenance activities are completed on schedule and documented accurately to GMP standards. Support and lead troubleshooting of BAS, utility systems, HVAC platforms, and critical temperature controls during night shift operations. Maintain a zero‑compromise mindset on safety and compliance. Ensure engineering staff complete required EHS, GMP, and regulatory training on time. Immediately report near misses, hazards, and safety events through appropriate systems. Exercise authority to stop work immediately when risks to safety or compliance are observed. Ensure adherence to OSHA, JLL EHS policies, and site‑specific safety expectations. Provide consistent communication to the Sr. Facility Manager regarding system risks, reliability concerns, and key escalations. Support FDA, GMP, EHS, and internal audits with accurate documentation and SME participation. Track uptime, SLA performance, maintenance compliance, and reliability metrics. Demonstrate strong, proactive leadership with technicians, stakeholders, and cross‑functional partners. Execute a structured plan to update all major equipment job plans and job details. Improve documentation quality aligned with ALCOA+ principles. Develop clear job aids to guide technicians through compliant maintenance execution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of engineering, maintenance, mechanical, or utilities experience.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory, chief engineer, or senior technical leadership role.
  • Experience in GMP, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other FDA‑regulated environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, utilities, mechanical, electrical, and BAS systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams across night operations.
  • Proficiency with CMMS (Maximo preferred).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, SOPs, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and leadership capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections (FDA, OSHA, EMA).
  • Knowledge of RCM, FMEA, root‑cause investigations, and reliability methodologies.
  • Experience with commissioning, qualification, and lifecycle management of critical systems.
  • Technical certifications (HVAC, electrical, controls, CMRP, etc.).
