Understand and promote the INEOS “20 Principles of Safety”, assuring that others are aware of safe working practices and promote the safety concepts of “Coaching for Safety” and “Stop Work”. Promote safety and safe actions through communication such as discussing safety with employees/contractors before job task, during meetings, and as opportunities arise to promote safety to the fullest extent possible. Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulatory requirements and strive to meet internal SHE objectives. Ensure completion of own and direct subordinate training requirements as outlined in the annual training schedule. Work Duties This position requires the ability to perform all duties of Laboratory Technician, as well as specific duties including, but not limited to, Environmental Reporting, ISO9000 and online instrumentation.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-year college degree (science) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, such as spectrophotometer, AA, gas chromatograph, autotitrator, FTIR, TOC, and KF Titrino.
  • Test raw materials, intermediate samples and finished product samples using instruments and equipment mentioned above.
  • Document results in Excel spreadsheets.
  • Archive data as required
  • Maintain good housekeeping in lab area and follow applicable Quality and Safety procedures.
  • Attend/Lead monthly safety/quality meetings and provide feedback.
  • Make various lab solutions and standardize as needed.
  • Verify instruments and methods according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Perform advanced maintenance and demonstrate advanced troubleshooting skills for equipment listed in 1.) above
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the plant process particularly in relation to the samples submitted to the lab.
  • Train new employees, temporary help and production operators on required procedures.
  • Assist production in process improvement projects.
  • May be required to fill in for shift worker on short notice.
  • Maintain all pertinent records and equipment.
  • Coordinate testing performed by contract labs.
  • Write Monthly report to ES+H Manager.
  • Train fellow employees on water related methods and equipment.
  • Perform quarterly evaluations of fume hoods.
  • Assist ES+H Manager with special projects.
  • Evaluate new equipment/technology related to all water samples both on-line and lab.
  • Maintain all quality related documents.
  • Evaluate procedures and policies for compliance to ISO requirements.
  • Ensure lab personnel follow document control procedures.
  • Assist ES+H Manager in ISO matters.
  • Calibrate and maintain on-line IR and GC analyzers.
  • Coordinate maintenance contracts with vendors as needed.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab GC’s and IR and ensure adequate supply of consumables associated with this equipment.
  • Ensure reference materials are available and are in control.
  • Coordinate cleaning/maintenance of equipment with production to ensure they are aware when results will not be available.
  • Evaluate need for expansion of on-line analyzers and/or additional lab instrumentation/methods.
  • Actively participate as team member or as support to the Process Improvement Team by conducting Measurement System analysis, gage R+R studies, or Designed Experiments
  • Order materials requested on Laboratory “Wish List” (via Internet and SAP) and ensure adequate inventory of chemicals and supplies.
  • Evaluate need for stocking items in storeroom.
  • Act as designee upon absence of Lab Manager.
  • Interface with maintenance as needed.
  • Write PM and general work orders when needed
  • Be available (cell phone) during off-hours for assisting shift workers/production with troubleshooting.
